Naw.
If I do 6:16 at 60, then with a decline of five seconds a decade over 2K, that would be 6:21 at 70 and 6:26 at 80.

15K erg, just before dawn.
1:42 @ 26 spm (12.7 SPI) is getting _very_ comfortable for everyday rowing.
26 spm is a standard rate for 60min.
1:42 would be a nice hour row, no?
17.7K
That would predict a 6:08 2K, right around the Open lwt 2K American record.
Sun is coming up.
Time to get out OTW.

Yawn.....
(review time)
So(!)... no more mention of "world beating" on the water this year from "the 'Batt". The HOCR didn't let him in so he's thrown in the towel on any head racing this year.... showing mercy on all the established "old boy network" of usual winners who would have be stunned to witness ranger's DLS..
He's bought an expensive monitor for his boat, at $200-$250, but is not reporting times with distances for his workouts. According to Rich, he's using it to determine single stroke spi figures
Distance trials on the erg coming right up!
... or so he says...
It's going to be a boring process waiting for the indoor regatta season to come around...

1:40 @ 27 spm (13 SPI) now feels as natural as can be, just for everyday rowing.
Back in 2002-2003, I felt relaxed at something more like 1:53 @ 27 spm (9 SPI).

10K OTW over at Europe Lake, after 15K OTErg.
Sunny, clear, water like glas--but hot.
I continue to do a solid 8 SPI OTW.
Delighted with that.

Sure.
Because I am not doing times for distances.
I am just rowing, working on technique, getting better and better, more and more efficient and effective, given the effort expended.
I am not working on my fitness, or performing.

I am rowing 25K a day.
I want to stretch that to 40K over the next month or so.
20K OTErg, just before dawn; then 20K OTW, just after dawn.

Even though SPI means nothing in a boat, how do you know that what it is since your SpeedCoach isn't calibrated?
It probably reads at least 5% fast like they all do in singles. Try a calibration factor of 0.940 to get a more realistic idea of your pace. Better still calibrate it against a GPS since you're on still water.

Not at all.
Goals are met and races, won, in the training and preparation for them.

John Pauls, who works for Fluidesign and is better OTW than Mike VB, uses a simple 1.000 calibration factor for his Fluid.
I row the same boat.

I wondered the same about his investments. Unfortunately we won't hear a word about it until everything shakes out, then he'll tell us he did whatever the best case scenario turns out to be. For the record, I turned my 401k and all Ira funds to cash about a month ago when SP500 was at 1290. Just need to determine when to start getting back in.

Nice one.
Yes, this is a pretty severe downturn, and not one that I expected.
Will it "shake itself out"?
That's my bet at the moment.
But who knows?
My bet is that the Dow will drive up to 18K or so over the next five years, that is, a few Ks beyond its historical highs.
Then, I'll sell out.
