online logbook, ranked workouts and other misc ?

Post by mercurygirl » July 18th, 2011, 3:01 pm

Hi,
I am new to rowing so probably some very basic questions here.

I just started trying to do interval workouts with my PM2 monitor. I enter all my info online and realized the 1 and 2 minute "rests" are not recorded and subsequently not entered in my log. No big deal I guess but made me think about how I am doing this. I added up my individual times since the meter did not do that for me when I tried to follow the instructions for that. I had done about 4 - 500m intervals separated by 1 and 2 minutes rests so my last 2 workouts were 2000m at ~10+minutes (not counting rests). Not great, I know but getting better. Anyway, the last one was "ranked". I don't know what that means exactly but was wondering if the way I entered it was not accurate and possibly a misrepresentation since it did not count the rests which would have made my avg/500m go way up. I want do do it the way everyone else is. I cannot find any info on this but there is too much here to go through all. This blog is great but is like trying do get a drink of water from a fire hydrant! I am afraid if I spend too much time here I will not have time to workout!!

My other question is wondering if anyone has has problems with the chain and oil spots on the floor and rug. I used 3:1 oil when I purchased the machine (used), and maybe should have used something more specific. Or did I use too much??? It was pretty rusty. Perhaps I should make this a separate posting in another section. Sorry if that is a big no-no.

thanks in advance!!!

20w 3-in-1 is fine (and recommended by C2 as an alternative to its erg oil); 20w motor oil will work equally well as a chain lube.

Yes, is in the wrong place, but no big deal. I will put an answer in the Indoor Rowers forum. It is located under Products, the very first category of the Board Index.

I have always written my times and meters in a steno book next to the rowing machine, and entered them in the online log by hand. I do believe the meters for the rest intervals are counted, as I used to write those down too.

I noticed that same thing before, so if I was doing a ranking distance and didn't want it to be ranked, I would add or subtract 1 meter. For example it would be 1999 or 2001 meters.
My other question is wondering if anyone has has problems with the chain and oil spots on the floor and rug. I used 3:1 oil when I purchased the machine (used), and maybe should have used something more specific. Or did I use too much??? It was pretty rusty.
3in1 oil smells, is very messy and bad stuff. I would never use anything with petroleum distillates like that on the erg. I did look around for other oils at one time, and didn't find anything close to the purity of concept2 oil. It's a lightweight mineral oil, and I'm not sure how it compares to the mineral oil found in stores, but the c2 oil is good. It is the only oil that I would use on the rowing machine.
