Yeah Bob, I have. Thanks. I only have one more distance to do (1000m) and as soon as the soreness from the FM wears off I will do it. I forgot they only count the best 9 out of 10. I thought I would move up more after the 1k.Bob S. wrote:Have you checked out the nonathlon? (nonathlon.com) If you do a lot of the different categories you might find it a good motivator. I also seem to be having more luck with PBs at the longer distances than the short ones. My latest attempts at 500, 1000, and 2000 failed to produce the desired results, but 5, 6, 10k, and 30 min have. I don't know if that is because it is hard to set new records at short distances when you are at the end of a very hard block of sessions and are sore, or if all the long distance is paying off in fitness.
Anyway, 30 min today yielded 7819m which was a record for distance and for highest percentile of any distance/time (88.8%).
My goal is to hit the 90th percentile in most categories by summer.
Oh yeah, I also set a new PB for HR 170 instead of 168 like I thought it was.

500m
Old PB: 1:32.3
New PB: 1:28.6
It stung a bit, and I'm miffed that I didn't break the 90th percentile in the rankings.
I'd need to shave another 6 tenths for that. We'll give that a go in about a month.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Damn Greg! You just dropped 4 seconds off your previous best, that's like dropping 16 seconds off a 2k or 48 seconds off a 6k. Good work! And then you managed to do 7 more 500s with a sub 1:40 average. You are crazy.
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Awesome 500! My tables say that equates to about 6:36 2k. You keep improving, no tellling how how you'll get in the future.gregsmith01748 wrote:500m

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks for all the positive comments, guys. I appreciate the feedback.
I hope I can push my times faster and cross over to some "real" rowing soon.
It's amazing how consuming this is. My wife thinks I'm obsessed, she may be right, but I'm having a blast. There is something really simple about competing with your own personal best that is very compelling to me.
By the way, think I broke a lung today, my chest hurts a lot. I will have to go pretty easy tomorrow

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Set out to row a new PB today and came out of the gym pleased. New 5K PB today!
Old PB: 19:03.1
New PB: 18:47.3
I set the monitor up to give me splits every 1000m, unfortunately I have to use a C2 at my gym because I don't have my own but give or take a few tenths of a second this is the breakdown of the splits per 500m from memory:
1000m: 1:51 / 500m
2000m: 1:53 / 500m
3000m: 1:53 / 500m
4000m: 1:53 / 500m
5000m: 1:51 / 500m
This sport is addicting I just wish I had the money to invest in a C2 and then hopefully into OTW.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
@rayg1: congratulations on the PB. I like the fast split for the last split. By the way, I think you can see your split results on the old PMs by pushing the "M" button. It cycles through the stats for the whole piece, and then each split. It's not as good as the new PM3 or 4, but if you have a weak memory like me, it's helpful.

rayg1: Congrats on the 5km result.
I haven't done a 5km recently so I might give it a try ... see if I can get close to your time.

New 10k PB by almost exactly 1 min (now 38:31.5). Also a new max HR by the way of 172. I'm not sure though how much of the improvement is better fitness and how much is the change to using slides.

Not only a new PB for 5k (18:28.6) but my first ever 90th+ percentile (actually 93rd) in the C2 rankings, and the first ever nonathlon score that is within 10% of the world record.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Thanks David. It's interesting (to me at least), but the 500 is my worst event followed closely by the 1k and 2k, then I jump nicely and peak at 5k, with 10k and 30 min just ever so slightly lower. HM and FM are much lower in terms of percentile, but I think it's because only the most accomplished or stronger ergers try those distances. If you compare instead to WR times, like nonathlon, then I am close to my 5k percentile at the longer distances (generally upper 87-88th %).DavidA wrote:Awesome! I don't see much hope of ever getting the 500 anywhere close to that -I'm all slow twitch (or no twitch <vbg>) instead of fast twitch, but judging by how my times in cycling at various distances compared, I should be able to lower at least the 2k time enough to get in the ballpark.
I'd really like to get the 2k down to where I get to the 90th %tile.
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
have only just got a rower first 2,ooom row was 8m25. is a bit slow but moving a 198kg frame is hard work hopefully it is a good start to losing a few kilo and faster times will follow.
