Well, how long before he posts his excuses, cant blame travel, trying to make weight, dehydration, no muscle grease, leaves on the line. Perhaps it was because he had some competition and scrutiny?2 B a motofiller wrote:Indianapolis: DNS(start)

Cue, stroke not set, still learning new DF, technique blah blah blah.
Shades of BIRC 2004, flew across the pond, warmed up and guess what, didnt race, gifted me a bronze though.
10 more years of training to come for the 70s Worlds best next.
Go back to max drag, hauling anchor and guess what, good results!

Another fine example to those starting out of how to conduct yourself and "participate". Why try when you know you will fail?

Problems that are obviously aggravated by these threads. Ive been offline for a couple of days. Must admit i hadnt thought a DNS was possible. Rangers new training sequence, D......N........S, D........N..........S, D.........N.............S.

He ofcourse Knew that he was not able to get an ok ish result out of this race, so he would have pulled a very mediocre Heavy result, all his excuses about being slow due to his having to make weight would have gone out of the window.

First point.
Training is best done from the top down, from the FM to the HM to 60min to 10K to 30min to 6K to 5K to 2K tp 1K to 500m.
Second point.
Everyone should be able to row a FM at 22-24 spm and their natural stroking power.
Rowing well for a lightweight is 13 SPI.
So, if you are a lightweight and row well, you should be able to row along for 2.5 hours at, say, 1:45 @ 23 spm, stready state, with a middlin' UT1 HR.
I am certainly not there yet, but that 1:45 @ 23 spm (my "Streamroller" rowing) feels better and better every day, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if I get all the way to a FM with it.
A FM @ 1:45/2:28 would best the Open lwt FM WR of 2:29:56 by two minutes.

I just didn't feel ready to race.
So I didn't.
In order to feel fully ready to race, I need to do more rowing at 119 df. and high rates (30 spm-40 spm).
I have a good feel for what I can do with my "Steamroller" rowing at 23 spm and 119 df. and my "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy"" rowing at 26 spm and 119 df., but I am still a little lost at 119 df. and higher rates.
As I was warming up at Indy, it seemed to me that the only way I would have felt comfortable racing was to do 26 spm, but I really didn't feel like wasting my time and energy racing at such a low rate, even though I might well have been able to hold 13 SPI and do 1:41/6:44.
I guess I am just a bit tired of racing unprepared, and perhaps this change of heart is permanent.
There is really no reason to do my training rows at race venues.
So, maybe I'll just do these rows at home from now on, and save the race venues for when I am fully prepared to race.

I am already one of the best ergers in the history of the sport.
I already have three WR rows, and am now trying to get better.
To get as good as I am, you have a long row to hoe.
Why not get at it?
