Slides, Why Not?
Re: Slides, Why Not?
Well I'm not disappointed I go them. Since I am am not going back and forth I am always able to see my computer screen easily (rowpro/PMI). The constant trying to focus drove me nuts. No variance with where my fan hits me. I can do 15-45 SPM. High SPM does not feel like flailing. I don't feel like I am getting my arms pulled off at high SPM. I can go faster and not feel like I am going to pass out.My hips and back are thanking me. So certainly for me it is a big plus, but each person can decide if they think they are right for them. It makes it "more fun" to erg

I'll weigh in (again) in favor of slides. I still have, and still use the stationary erg, and did for over 23 years. I'm fine with it but the slides, as noted several times, make it more comfortable and less stressful on the body. I just recently sold my shell , and immediately got the slides as a new "toy". Once in the middle of a workout and in the rythym, I can close my eyes and it actually feels like I'm rowing a boat; with the smooth motion, no harsh catches, and just the right amount of seat movement. C2 touts the new dynamic erg as sport specific, but I'll bet if non-rowers try it, or the slides, they'd tend to enjoy it more and think if it more as "fun" as opposed to a "workout".

If you live on the moon for a while and return to earth you find gravity is a pain in the ass. Thankfully you get used to it after a while.Rockin Roland wrote:Try using some slides for a few months then go back to using a stationary erg. Re: Slides, Why Not?
adding roll & vertical compliance to the slides with a Shox Box www.shoxbox.biz system is the closest OTW feel i have experienced. plus together they really have unloaded my back & neck.
Re: Slides, Why Not?
I have been forced off my slides for the last couple of days as a result of the failure of one of the slide bungees. I hadn't realized how much I had come to rely on the slides after barely 6 months of use, but the very first stroke on the re-grounded erg was a shock. I was feeling withdrawal symptoms for the whole 10' wake up row. It wasn't as bad today, but I still missed the slides. I called C2 this morning and a set of new bungees are on the way, but I will still have to do a few grounded pieces before they get here.
It occurred to me that, if I plan to do any competition, like at the Beach Sprints three months from now, I had better get in some practice off the slides during the couple of weeks or so before the event in order to get re-accuainted with rowing on a static erg again.
