Long time gone.
Long time gone.
Been quite some time but thought I might sneak this in. While not quite the complete goal that Roy and I were working on (World Champion in two sports) we have both moved a bit closer. He won a National championship in Time trial and I just this weekend won one in the Team Pursuit (and set a new National record). This to go with the 6:52 (at altitude so 6:40 at sea level)I erged in May. The day was pouring rain so the cycle team was cross training at a local gym and wanted to know how to erg so I jumped on the damned thing and let my ego push me to stupid things. I swear, I think I saw God. I've never hurt so bad from excercise. Anyway. Hope you are well and you are pursuing your dreams. take care, be safe. live well , live strong. dennis
Re: Long time gone.
Congratulations! I would think that success in cycling at that level is much harder to achieve than on an erg.. more people involved, more competitive?

Nice one, Dennis.
So, for the 2K, _better_ than you were when you were 55.
That has been my experience, too.
If you keep working at some maximal level, decline with age is not really that severe, something like 1/3 of what usually shows up, 1-2 seconds per year over 2K.
So, over five years, the decline over 2K is only a couple of seconds, rather than five to ten.
This means that, theoretically, in the forty years from 20 to 60, a lightweight who could pull 6:00 for 2K at 20 might still be able to pull 16 seconds slower at 60.
6:16
So that is my target.
Are you jumping back into the fray of racing on the erg?
BIRC? WIRC?
If so, see you there.

Re: Long time gone.
Hey Ranger do us all a favour and stop the crap from overflowing from your thread into everyone else's, that way we can avoid stepping in it if we don't want to.

Re: Long time gone.
Cheers Dennis -- I thought of you earlier this summer when we were tooling around Grand Mesa and hanging out in Ouray/Durango on our way to Taos. Before I die I want to do the Tour of Colorado and coast down from the top of the Mesa to Grand Junction.* I think I might hit 90 mph before I crash ....
But not on the switchback jeep track that goes straight down the west rim.....

Yo Dennis, It is just cosmic because I was just thinking about you yesterday. Sounds like you still THE MAN that I look up to. I love it, seeing God, ain't that the truth. I am still rowing but I have just yesterday added a new long term goal, a million meters on the skierg. I think it will take me 18 months, I can't stop rowing to do this, just work it in where I can. I figure a daily 2000m after each row. I hope you are going to make an appearance at the 2011 Mile High Sprints this year.
Later, my good friend.
