How much rest do you need / take?
In a way I don't feel I'm training hard or fast enough to really need much rest, and have been taking just about a day a week off rowing. Usually taking a brisk walk on off days. But today I skipped rowing in the morning after a solid week, and I feel so blah. Legs still feel a little tired, and the extra morning sleep didn't do me any favors I can tell either.
Thoughts?
Rest days
Re: Rest days
1 to 2 days per week unless a specific training specifies otherwise (some marathon plays are only 4 days a week due to volume). Make one day and "active" rest day--brisk walking/jogging, pilates, yoga, etc. and the other a more passive, do nothing or only very light excercise type of a day. If your HR/pulse is somewhat elevated in the morning when you first wake up, go light on th eroutine, if not completely off. If you feel run down, take time off until you feel more normal. If more than 4-7 days off, start back a bit lighter and build in over the next few days. One rule of thumb suggested is to take as many days to build back as you took off if over a prolonged period.
