PBs are definitely a thing of the past for me, but I am pleased to report a seasonal best (actually the best for the last 2 or 3 seasons) in the half marathon. 1:37:15.2 - previous time this season was 1:38:48.2.

as a "newbie", incremental PB's seem to come through the course of just working on technique or putting more meters in so I typically don't post them but I learned some good lessons on this one.

Pete Plan Beginner Week 15 Day 1 - 10k Row

Didn't start out with any particular plan other than to pace against my last 10k on RowPro which was 2:04.7. Was not paying much attention to the PM3/laptop but after about 3k realized I was around 2:00; decided to try to break 20min on the first 5k and deal with the next 5k with whatever I had left. Was doing the math in my head - had force curve showing so didn't have the split detail, only time and average pace - and realized I was going to be a few seconds short and cranked it up to around 1:45 for last 100 meters or so but missed it! 20:08.0 / 2:00.8 - still a PB, though. Was about to put handle down and had slowed to around 2:15 but got really pissed and finished off as a 6k - 24:06.7 / 2:00.6 - another PB. Then I put the handle down...

Lessons learned: (1) will take the PBs whenever/however I get them at this early stage in my "career" (2) I know I can break 20min on 5k and 24min on 6k w a little prep and planning - times that seemed impossible when I started this a few months ago (3) I can see myself getting to 40min 10k at some point this year (4) My chances of going handle down increase when I don't start with some sort of plan in my head!

Had a 2k today, posted a time of 6:54.9, which was a PR. More details on it in the training thread.

Not much comparatively (actually fairly horrible now that I look at the online rankings...), but I'm on week three of the Pete Plan for Beginners, and realized my 5k time has come down a couple minutes from only two weeks ago, to just under 22 minutes at 18spm. Admittedly this wasn't a leave it all on the erg effort, but it still feels good to see improvement. Also managed to do negative splits for the last thousand meters, dropping 2 seconds of my 500m pace each 250 meters. Small but consistent gains- hopefully this translates to some real PBs at the end of the 24 weeks of the plan!

A PR is a PR, no matter how fast your times are. The important thing is to make progress. That's great that in such a short time period your times have dropped so much already. In a month or so at a higher rating I bet you'll be able to break 20:00.
PBs: 2k 6:09.0 (2020), 6k 19:38.9 (2020), 10k 33:55.5 (2019), 60' 17,014m (2018), HM 1:13:27.5 (2019)

Old PBs: LP 1:09.9 (~2010), 100m 16.1 (~2010), 500m 1:26.7 (~2010), 1k 3:07.0 (~2010)

Hopped on the erg for a bit this afternoon, did a pretty long warm up and didn't really feel like doing any kind of distance. Opted for a 500m TT instead:

Distance Time SPM
500m 1:29.4 38

PRed by almost a second and a half! Went out really hard, around 1:24/1:25 then sorta "settled" into 1:28 at a 36 for the middle 250. Then over the last 100 I died horribly. Rating went up, split also went up. With 100m to go I had the avg at a 1:28.6, but it didn't stay there for long. I think with a little practice I could definitely break 1:29.

Congratulations, Bob. That's an excellent time.

I just completed my first half marathon yesterday, participating in Concept2's Marathon Madness, in just under 1:46. Wasn't sure what to expect so I took it relatively easy to make sure my body parts would function afterward. My butt began to complain with about 3k to go even with the precaution of padding the seat. At this point, I think you have to be partially mad to do these and I'm not sure I want to try another one. But more power to those who do.

Two PBs in two days!!

yesterday: logged 15070 meters for a 60:00 min piece (albeit only an improvement of 18 meters from my last PB, but still I was pumped)

today: 2K - 7:07.7 (This really made me happy, my last PB in the 2K was a couple of months ago and this was an almost 7 second improvement. If I can get below 7:00, I might think about going to the CRASH-Bs, just for the fun of it)

this week improved my 500m time from 1:42 down to 1:38:9 and this was after a good 6k workout with all 500 sub 2 mins. quite pleased.

Congrats Bama and Greg on the hour bests! That's always been my least favorite test. The feeling you get at half hour when you realize that you still have 30 minutes to go... it's just awful. And you feel so good for the first 5k, and the last one just never seems to end.

I seem to feel a lot better with the 60 minute and HM than the shorter distances. As long as there is good movie on the TV, or a good podcast, the time seems to pass pretty quickly. When I do long pieces, I am trying to keep my heart rate in the low 160s (90% of max), and if I can't make the time, I tend to back off. But for 500m or 2000m I'm flirting with my maximum heart rate, and pushing as hard as I can. It's the longest 7 minutes of my life, and I feel just awful after I'm done.

I can always get myself up for a small improvement in a distance row, but my aversion to pain keeps my from even wanting to attempt the short ones too often.

I lurk on this thread - intersting variety of opinions on the preference for distances. My take - they all hurt! :D

I did my first marathon on Boston Marathon Day, so it is definitely a PB: 2:58:54.0. Endurance was great, I wasn't wearing a HR monitor but it felt like in the 150s average, maybe 160s in the last 5k or so. What really hurt was the glutes, and get this - my fingernails! I guess having my fingers curled around the handle for about 5000 strokes took its toll. I have the 2K to go for the Nonathlon - finished the "suffering", now have the "pain"
