Model C versus Models D/E - Prefer the Old to the New

Post by murphypepper » October 9th, 2009, 11:15 am

I am a 35-year-old lightweight male and I've set almost every one of my PBs on the Model C. Can't seem to make any headway on my gym's Model D, even after almost 2.5 years. Are there others who have experienced a rough transition or who have the solution?

Thanks,

Thanks,
that's odd.. I thought that the SW on the PM made sure that the pacing was basically identical on all models.

How much of a difference are you seeing?

I feel like it's something structural. I will admit that I had 'fallen off' right around the time my gym made the switch, but I'd say my times are roughly 4-5 seconds worse per 500m for all events, than this time 2 years ago.

Weird.. Dougie will be along shortly to provide all kinds of config details on the PM :D :D

so, all I will offer is:
- check that your foot height is the same as the other machine
- check to see that the DF setting is the same

personally, I would go back to the machine that gave you the better times!!

It's totally weird...just that after 2+ years, figured I'd be further along...I think that, though my feet feel good where I've got them now, I might change it just to see what that does, per your advice. DF's are right on. Thanks!

My understanding is that the monitor only measures the deceleration of the flywheel. Everything else is derived from that. However, if the chain, cog, rollers on the seat etc. are all gunked up you would be expending energy overcoming this friction before you put any energy into the flywheel. That probably is not enough to explain your differences of 4-5 secs/500. I bring it up because I set a PB at 500 m on a newly rebuilt Model C, and have not been able to get within 1 sec of it on my used Model D. I wonder if friction is enough to explain the diff.

Thanks - when the D was brand new, I found it awkward...

Did you check the drag factor like chgoss suggested?

That's probably due to having factory fresh bungee shock cords. The handle return tends to feel a bit harder on a new machine.

After some metres have been rowed the cords slacken off a bit.
