New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Broke 10K PB
Broke 10K PB and finally broke 39 mins! Finished in 38:59.6. Cut it fine but knocked just over 8 seconds off my previous PB over the distance and am very happy with that!

bloomp, congrats on 30k in one day!
I decided that I'm going to spend the next couple days baselining, to get a better idea of where I'm at right now, to be able to better gauge progress in the future.
I'm thinking I will probably dive into a training plan starting on Monday. Leaning towards WP, but need to reread it a few more times to make sure.
Today was light for me, 7min WU, a pair of 500m runs to test some damper settings, and then a 30 min. attempt.
Managed to hold 1:50/500m and 25 s/m for the majority.
Passed 5k at 18:10, passed 6k at 21:53, finished with 8203m.

5k PB
Set 5K PB of 19:24.6 previous was 19:30 as a 60 year old lwt and the surprising thing was I was not trying for the PB since I am planning on a 2K race on Saturday. I just was pulling steady at 1:56 - 1:57 and just stayed there....I will row a very easy 5k tomorrow and a easy 2k on Friday.
Full Marathon
This is my first post to the board, and I'd just like to congratulate everyone who has made their personal bests just that little bit better!
I rowed my first full Marathon yesterday (1st March) in 2:53:37.0, beating my half marathon time of 1:27:09.1 for the first half, and matching it (ish) for the second half!

Great Job!
Did you get this new PB at a race or at home?
I'm curious if you found the air as dry as I did at CRASH-Bs?
I got a PB at CRASH-Bs, but expected a better time based on my predictor workouts. It's a more comfortable atmoshere (air and temp) at home for me.
What do you think made the difference for your huge improvement ?

Well, thanks for the interest.
I did this at the Adirondak Sprints, same as romad63 (what race were in in romad? i must have seen you there)
The room was a medium size room (obviously no where near the size of the Agginas Arena in Boston) but only had 10 ergs running during any given race.
I dont think i noticed anything about the air in the arena in Boston but I think my nerves were a lot higher and I didnt stick to my race plan strongly enough.
The biggest thing was I focused on beating myself and not the people around myself and being smart about my race plan while staying mentally and physically tough. Although still my practice workouts according to my coach say i should be pulling a 7:03.0 hmmmm. I know i can go lower than 7:11.1 but I think right now 7:03.0 would be lucky.
There was just so much buildup to Boston that I kind of psyched myself out by thinking about it too much. I am one that doesnt like to know i have a 2k until a few days before the 2k date. I hate thinking about it so much, its nice to just get on and do what you gotta do.
on a side note i also gained 2 pounds which put me over weight for LW. I would have gotten 3rd place.
anyway, goodjob everyone and congrats.

Re: 5k PB
Set a PB of 7:17.2 on Saturday. The race was a masters 40 + with 2 rowers in their 40's, the third at 52 and me (the only lwt of the bunch). The 52 year old won in 6:49. I went out in 1:43 for the first 500 meters. I was trying to stay with the competiton since I had my wife watching her first erg race and wondering why I was getting killed . I am done racing for this season...rowed three races over a 4 week period with times of 7:22, 7:17.4 and 7:17.2 and it was a lot of fun. Hopefully I will figure out the best way to approach the 2k next year.tjf0 wrote:Set 5K PB of 19:24.6 previous was 19:30 as a 60 year old lwt and the surprising thing was I was not trying for the PB since I am planning on a 2K race on Saturday.
