Newbie Help Please!

Post by sylance » September 22nd, 2008, 4:04 pm

Well... I finally made the plunge and purchased a Model D with a PM4. It'll be here Thursday and so now I'm getting myself prepped... my wife and I are so excited! My questions however is not for me, but for my wife.

She hasn't done much physical training and will be starting from scratch. To keep her motivated I thought I'd put some goals on a list with rewards (like a shopping spree) attached to them. Can you experienced folks help me with this? I'm looking to have goals that will take a couple of weeks to hit, to some taking several months. Goals like: X total meters rowed , first 30-minute straight row, or 500 meters under X minutes... etc.

Can you help please? Some short and some long goals and about how long it'd take? Some creative goals? Since I don't know anything about rowing and how long typical rows are, it's rather difficult for me to get this going. I hope this makes sense and any help us MUCH appreciated... thanks!

I would talk with your wife, ask what she would like to accomplish and what her goals might be to get there.

You can help by encouraging her, so her rowing is fun and enjoyable from her perspective.

Then play it by ear. See what is working and what isn't.

Thanks for the response... we've been talking but maybe it's better to get her started and then put goals in place. I'm trying to make it more fun for her and thought some short and long goals would be more fun. She loves the idea and wants goals on a piece of paper for her to strive too.

Her primary goal is to shed fat, or what she would say is to lose weight.
