My New Exercise Partner Is A "Chick Magnet"

In my attempt to develop the body that men fear and women love, I have been working out a lot on my rower a lot. However, to keep Tom from becoming burned out, I have purchased a new "exercise machine" to supplement my erg training:
Yep: I have a new exercise partner and constant companion. His name is "Blue Boy." Blue Boy is a thirteen week old English Cocker Spaniel. His markings are known as "Blue Roan!" (thus the name - Blue Boy). I purchased him to be my new "exercise machine." He never complains and he is so attached to me that I can't seem to do anythng without him following me EVERYWHERE. So.......you WILL be seeing him out on the lake with me in my boat and on long walks everyday with me. I will be taking Blue Boy thru obedience training soon. Of course, his name will eventually become "Blue." Sounds like something out of a Joan Baez record ("Old Blue") or some other hillbilly venue. Yep - Blue will be a "Redneck dog" and will be enjoying fishing, hunting, swimming and obviously - a "chick magnet."
Anybody else have photos of their "exercise partner" too?

Ours does too.She used to walk as far as we did..over 10 miles at a clip.Back in the "good old" days.Since then she has developed joint issues that require routine Adequan shots and lots of glucosamine/chondroitin/msm every day and fewer miles walked. But she is a trooper and still keeps us moving!!

Tom, your new puppy is absolutely adorable. Most definitely a chick magnet. I hope you don't mind, but I just pasted your link into the LUNA-TICS year round forum. Blue is too cute and needed to be shared with all.
I'm sorry to hear your back continues to bother you? I'm glad you have a good plan in place to help strengthen that core to build the body men fear and women love. We are motivated by your efforts and success. I think you and Blue will do well together to help continue the weight loss. Even if you're not ergging, I hope you check in periodically for some moral support to the ergging LUNA-TICS.

Thanks - I backed off a bit, but still erg (not quite as much). Today, I start PT on my back. Since I backed off rowing (although I've continued to lose weight), my back actually feels worse. Once I get the PT started, I will be back into it more.
Of course, I gotta follow my doctor's recommendations. I believe the key is to row with good form, but not overtrain.
Photo on other section of the forum? GREAT idea. Perhaps others will get themselves a stimulous to get them going too. Whether it's a dog, new bike, new rower, etc. - it does help to have something that keeps us going.

Tom:
That is one cute pup! What a great exercise companion. Take care with your back. Perhaps a little PT, some easier rowing just concentrating on form, and some really good doggie walks will do the trick!
My wife and I have 2 chocolate and white American Cocker boys - great companions and always ready for a little exercise - you just can't beat those Spaniels for all around cuteness and loveability.

Yep - the new "partner" keeps me going.
Went to doctor Friday. PT 3 days a week. As far as exercise goes he told me: "
if it hurts - don't do it."
Pretty good idea!
I was also thinking this: if I treat myself half as good as I treat Blue Boy - I'll be in pretty good shape!!
I constantly re-evaluate what works for me. Perhaps I should follow my own advice a little better?

Pretty (cool) good video. It does mention decelerating on the return (slide) position.
FYI: when I went to a pro coach for help, he slowed my return to 1/3 of the power stroke. The rest of the video is very similar to what I was taught.
I (as mentioned) have a bad back/neck (bulging discs in neck and low back). As long as I use good tecnique I CAN row without any pain. Actually, I just started rowing again after a couple of weeks rest (the January Challenge wore me out a bit so I backed off). I feel BETTER now that I'm rowing again.
As mentioned in a previous thread, the doctor (orthopedic) told me that as long as an exercise does not hurt me - DO IT. So far - so good!

Good points..many people feel that they can't row because it is bad for the back.I have worked in gyms where I can't get some to row no matter how I plead the case for the exercise.Granted..it takes proper form and the knowledge to stop when it is enough but it is so good for the core and with some coaching can actually strengthen many weaknesses.I have had many whiners on the erg..mostly women. But they always thanked me when they were done..their clothes fit them better and it offered results that no other aerobic exercise could.I used a rower in my health club that sat unused for years.I became hooked and I would row on my off times and after I used them..they were the talk of the gym.Rowing is such an awesome "sport"..

One of the great things (for us) is the rowers are available most of the time. I have my own at home & do use the one at the gym too. It's an amazing quality piece of equpment for a VERY reasonable price when you compare it to other very expensive pieces of equipment at the gym that don't compare in workout quality.

My dog won't let me row (bites my feet while I'm on the erg) - now what?

Tom, my pup did the same thing. A spray bottle with water in it applied at the appropriate time might discourage him. That and a good sharp "NO".

Treadmill for the puppy?

Tom,
Perhaps if you have a treadmill you could scoot it over behind the rower - that way Blue Boy will think he is chasing you!
