Snowflakes were present throughout the Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field yesterday afternoon...and the teams played on! By the time the 9th inning rolled around, it was getting tough to see the players! Back to back games where the Rockies and the Astros played in temperatures hovering around 28 F. That's baseball in Denver in April.

We actually had the game postponed in the middle of 8th until the next day, because of the snow :D -0 in CIncinnati :o

Happily, we still have SIX days (when today is included) to finish out the 2021 Erging Season. If your total isn't going to be what you wanted it to be this year...there's a whole new calendar coming your way!

Some will be ramping up for the upcoming Global Marathon and Century Challenge - and this Challenge often gets personal, with teammates pursuing opportunities on birthdays to see how they're doing compared to last year. So. If you're not going to be "ready" to complete the marathon challenge now...cheer up! There's an opportunity on any given day for you to do this later.

Global Marathon and Century Challenge
May 1–15

Details:

Choose from two levels of participation:
Full Marathon/Century Challenge: Row or ski a full marathon (exactly 42,195 meters) or ride/row/ski 100,000m in one workout during the first two weeks of May and enter it in your online logbook.
Half Marathon/Half Century Challenge: Row or ski a half marathon (exactly 21,097 meters) or ride/row/ski 50,000m in one workout during the first two weeks of May and enter it in your online logbook.
Meter amounts must exactly match the distances (42,195 and 21,097, respectively, for the full and half marathon, or 100,000m or 50,000m for the Century/Half Century) to be counted for the challenge.
Indoor rower, SkiErg or BikeErg meters only (no on water/on snow meters please). Meters must be done all at once in one workout; you cannot combine meters from each machine to reach the half or full marathon total.

This is an individual challenge. (You do not need to belong to a team to participate.)
Meters must be entered online.

Are you gearing up for battle? The Global Marathon and Century Challenge is truly a battle...physically, sure....but perhaps even more so mentally and psychologically! There is incredible tedium in erging - and some address this with movies, or perhaps a WHOLE series of movies to get through the requisite meters to finish off this mega accomplishment! There is that break point - and if you can get yourself past that point, it's smooth sailing. Ok, it's at least something you can grittily finish! Plan your strategy!

Thank you everyone for the congrats on the 5mm milestone. I should be able to get a short row in before work tomorrow and then surgery on Thursday. I’ll be back to rowing as soon as possible 🙂. I’ll check in on the team during my recovery.
Jodi, it took a little longer, but I finally found the commemorative coin for 5 MM plus a healed trigger finger. Enjoy your celebratory pint.

Haven't had a good bunny trail in a long time, and danwho's commemorative coin find for Jodi's celebration sure sent me on the trail. I had no idea about the minting and usage of Civil War tokens, which this coin surely is. With the Union north doing poorly, US minted coins were taken out of circulation in 1862 in the north. From what I can gather quickly, it appears that merchants would commission coinage (looks like mostly copper) ... and so began the use of store cards, etc.! Some of these coins were pretty basic, and others were designed to resemble US coinage ...and I know you'll all be surprised, but designed to trick recipients into thinking the store coins were the real thing. By 1864, private minting was banned for just those kinds of reasons. The store credit token pictured here is currently worth about $1500.
Every so often, a word of the day pops up that has relevance to something we've recently been talking about. Today's word of the day, from Dictionary.com, is :

Post by Kona2 » April 30th, 2021, 10:48 am

We are teetering on the VERY EDGE of a new year! Get out your party hats !

Norma has erged a palindrome almost every day she erged in the 2021 season, and appropriately ends the 2021 tally at a really big palindrome of 5,151,515 m. Pretty sure this is her biggest tally in all her erging years...and we want to know...did you get your sports bag?!

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights..Celebrations:

5.15 MM Norma
3.2 MM Chip
3 MM Michael C
1 MM Teresa R
450 K Danny

Thanks, everyone, for erging with us! We have reached the amazing average of 1 MM per teammate with the help of all our 180 teammates. We've all spent countless hours (look at your history to see just how MANY hours you've erged this year) working towards our exercise and health goals. We don't often make it to the ONE million meter milestone per teammate, but we usually come pretty close.
