Re: Remigo Ergo Sum
Virtual Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 33
After some heroic efforts to get away from the North American Continent, Ian Rivers is due to pick up the Gulf Stream later today. He has actually rowed 423NM to achieve 270NM in straight line distance over the last 16 days, at a speed of 1.14 Knots.
In between storms, he should therefore be able to speed up from this point, and we will set off virtually in pursuit of him when he reaches 540NM/1,000KM in straight line distance (approx Way Point 4).

Re: Remigo Ergo Sum
Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 35
With both the wind and the current now behind him, Ian Rivers has covered approx 175 Nautical Miles / 325 KM over the last couple of days ๐ช. This represents nearly 30% of the 600 Nautical Miles that he has rowed since setting off on May 31st.
To support Ian in his incredible challenge of attempting a solo, unsupported row of the North Atlantic Route (New York to Isles of Scilly) and raise awareness of his adventure, a number of virtual crews of 10-20 people each are simultaneously rowing the 3,100NM / 5,741KM distance:
- Remigo Ergo Sum (split into 5 teams)
- Rowing For Beer (split into 2 teams)
- The Ancient Mariners, Tasmania, Timbuktu, Tierra del Fuego (split into 6 teams)
- British Army (split into 3 teams)
- RowAlong (split into 3 teams)
- Red Line Rowers (split into 3 teams)
- Team Ruderathlet (split into 6 teams)
- Forum Flyers (split into 4 teams)
We are also shortly hoping to add ...
- Team Canada (split into 6 teams)
- U.S. Army Veterans (split into 5 teams)
- USAF Veterans (split into 4 teams)
- U.S. Navy (split into 3 teams)
... along with any other teams who would like to be included. It is simply for fun, and we are producing some colourful progress maps, charts and team reports every few days - which are making their way to most of the teams involved.
Anyone can view the actual / virtual race progress on this live tracker:
https://www.kinetic6tracks.com/s/FQ9L#history/assets
Click on '24h' at the top right hand corner of the screen and then Zoom Out by repeatedly clicking on '-' to begin with. The blue line shows Ian Rivers' latest progress.
The 32 virtual crews originally set off on May 15th, so we have diverted and anchored up in Hamilton Harbour, Bermuda. This is to allow Ian to catch up / get a reasonable head start.
We will set off virtually again in pursuit of him when he reaches 540NM / 1,000KM in straight line distance.

Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 37
> 2 million metres posted yesterday by the 32 teams. 14 people posted more than 30,000m.
Albatross Five (113,280m) has taken a canvas lead over Red Line One (110,754m), Forum Flyers IV ๐ (108,708m) and Ruderathlet 'A' (107,565m).
The two Rowing For Beer teams are almost inseparable in 5th/6th Place, with seven of them rowing a half marathon yesterday.
Team 4 RES Intrepid are clearly still celebrating their Stage One victory (New York to Bermuda). The first shall be last and so on.
Ian Rivers himself is weathering a massive storm around Way Point 4 - around 1,100KM/600NM into his journey or nearly 20% of his way across the North Atlantic.

End of Day 42 (Friday)
After the drama of the latest storm and capsizing, in which Ian Rivers actually went overboard, he is back on track and rowing briskly eastwards. Ian is acheiving nearly 2 knots and therefore maintaining his lead of approx 300NM over the chasing peloton.
Specifically, Team Red Line One were 284NM and Team RES Endurance were 329NM behind him at midnight last night. After that, the distances between most of the remaining 30 crews are so small that everything is simply too close to call.
Once the Kinetic 6 tracker system has been updated this morning, it will show that Team Red Line One have just rounded the turn at Way Point 3 and have begun to head eastwards in pursuit of Ian, who has himself almost reached Way Point 5 (in line with the eastermost point of Quebec ).

Re: Remigo Ergo Sum
Approx 400k yesterday as people catch up with outstanding June postings. This takes us to 14,845k on the C2 screen + 2,384k to add from the usual folks who post monthly (some May, but mostly June) = 17,229k or 297k per day so far this season.
Then there are a futher 29 Remigos who probably also have some June metres to add, which should push us towards 18 million metres or 310k per day .
Row Sentinel Challenge - End of Day 44
Ian picked up the pace yesterday and managed 68.46NM or 127KM. This increases his overall speed to 1.63 Knots and his straight line speed to 1.25 Knots; therefore reducing his projected finish to 104 Days๐ช.
Based on his performance to date, he will end up actally rowing 4,042NM to travel the 3,100NM in straight line distance (+30%).
He is now sitting a quarter of the distance between Way Points #5 and #6 ~ 505KM in front of Red Line One ; who are 56KM in front of RES Endurance (Team 1) ; who are only 24KM in front of RES Enterprise (Team 3).
When he has good day (100KM), his lead increases ; when he has a slower day (50KM), the virtual teams catch him up. Tally-ho.

Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 48
(July 1st)
Mr Rivers is bounding along - 56, 68, 70, 59, 82 NM over the last five days - but so are we.
His lead is therefore not much increased at 346 NM or 641KM = approx 10 days.
However, this should reduce dramatically when the next storm comes along .
RES Endurance have just passed 2 million metres; closely followed by Red Line One , Albatrosses One and Six and RowAlong #1 .
In fact there is barely 100k separating the top ten virtual teams.

Re: Remigo Ergo Sum
Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 50
As Ian rightly says, another 350NM-400NM and he will be half way across the Atlantic .
The pursuing virtual race couldn't be closer, with both of 'RES Endurance' and 'Red Line One' on 2,189KM - side by side this morning.
Expecting Ian's 720KM lead to shrink somewhat as his speed now slows (only 44NM / 1.82 Knots yesterday) and during the coming storms. ย Think it will become a fascinating race over the next 60 days.
Will update the tracker again later today (the leading virtual crews are in fact now approaching Way Point 5).

Re: Remigo Ergo Sum
RSC - Day 38
Well, the storms ๐ฌ no longer seem to slow Mr Rivers down very much and he has now averaged >35NM in straight line distance for the last 38 days or >65KM per day, as he originally promised he would.
We have therefore reached the point where he has rowed +9NM / +17KM more than the leading virtual crews, had we all started on the same day (whereas in fact we started 16 days earlier and then stopped for 16 days in Bermuda).
So, we can now revert to our original 20-Stage journey plan and simply see what happens over the second half of the race. A number of further teams are likely to join us for this, including some smaller University teams for whom we will also calculate actual time rowed .

Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 44
Ian Rivers continues to make steady progress of around 50NM / 93KM each day, despite some very rough weather, which has pushed his overall speed up to 1.91 Knots / 1.50 Knots in straight line distance.
On this basis, he will row just over 3,900NM to travel the 3,100NM in straight line distance from New York and arrive in the Isles of Scilly in 42 days' time = Total 86 days.

Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 49
The last four days have been hard going for Ian in very rough seas , despite the joy of encountering the Right Whale . He has therefore only averaged 1.1 Knots and covered 26NM / 48KM per day.
This has edged him from Way Point #11 (the longitude of the State of Rio Grande Do Norte) to Way Point #12 (the longitude of the Easternmost Point of Brazil - Seixas, Joao Pessoa ).
Meanwhile, The Ancients Organisation (getting ever younger in their 70s, 80s and 90s) are on a charge and now have four of their six teams on the Leader Board .
In fact, Albatross One has recently overtaken Ian and now leads the race by 27NM / 50KM; with Albatross Six , Red Line One and RES Enterpise (Team 3) close behind them.

Row Sentinel Challenge - Day 53
Well, the stormy weather blew Ian Rivers around in a small circle; then due south; and then slightly east on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week; giving three of the virtual teams a chance to get their noses in front of him.
However, he was able to get going again yesterday , albeit in a north-easterly direction, and covered a respectable 52NM / 96KM.
He is therefore now sitting only 80NM short of Way Point #13 (Santa Cruz Das Flores, Ihla das Flores , The Azores).
Meanwhile, Not Long Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away ... if anyone hasn't yet watched the three episodes of 'The Road to Tokyo', you really should. Four Team GB boats are in action today (Day Zero).

Oh, and we love this guy: 'Norwegian rower Olaf Tufte, 45, is heading to his seventh Olympics, but his first in the quad scull. The farmer and firefighter has gold medals from the Sydney and Athens Olympics and most recently picked up bronze in Rio. "I was only going to row for three weeks," he said. "It's been 30 years. That should be enough."' Sign him up to RES immediately.

Re: Remigo Ergo Sum
With just over a month to go, all 50 virtual teams are finally in the Row Sentinel Challenge; on the North Atlantic Map; and on the RES Scoresheet (so the spreadsheet is 2,898 lines long now ).
Over the last two months, the 50 teams have averaged nearly 3.1 million metres each and the 977 active individual rowers have managed 158,062m each
Collectively, there are also another 1,505 dormant members of these teams, who would be much healthier if they dusted off their ergs and went for a trundle.
And now that the US Navy โด are on the Leader Board in 8th, 11th and 14th place, we should be resigned to the repeated chanting of 'Go Navy' ...
