Looking for a team

Hi all,

I have been rowing for about 7 weeks now and have racked up 257,663m in doing so. I generally tend to do about a 7k ever day but have chopped and changed things around in the last week or so. I completed my first marathon row 42,195 (09/11/2013) which took me 3h:23min. Today (13/11/2013) i completed my first 2k in 7.21 (average of 1:50 per 500m) and also today did my first 500m in 1:39.

Not sure I'll be any good at this but its only been 7 weeks so, early days!

You are making great progress after only seven weeks! Already a marathon and sub-2:00/500m pace for the 2K!

Well done!

We would love to have you row with us on team TimbukToo / TimbukTwo, and we welcome you to join our year-round affiliation as well. You can see our team board is active with supportive chatter and "atta-boys", and we have a fantastic group of leaders in Cap'n Izzzmeister and Damselfly Lisa. I would not be as engaged in rowing as I have been without the support of this great team.

Oh wow...that's great stuff!

I'm still settling into the rower after 2 weeks and usually do 2500 in 13 minutes, then sit on the rower for 10 minutes till I can feel my toes! I'll be happy if I can get half what you've done in 7 weeks!!!

Hi Kyle, thanks for your kind words :) - it's words like that, that inspire me to carry on pushing. You know, we are not all the same and our goals or targets are all different. Perseverance is key! Keep up the good work and too will see vast improvements. :D

Those are are times, Kevin, and after only 7 weeks. I've been rowing steady for 8 years and have lost 50 pounds since I started. I'm currently in another push to lose 20 pounds and get to 200. I'm at 208 right now (6' 0" tall) and 62 years old.

I'm putting in 75-90K per week and was at a 2:15 pace when I started this push about 15 weeks ago. I've brought it down to a 2:05-2:07 pace this past week. About the same splits I had 4-5 years ago.

During the past 8 years there is no way I could even sniff a time like 7:21 for 2K or a sub 1:40 for 500m. It all I can do to break 2:00 for 500m. My best ever is 1:50. I can't even pull a 1:40 pace for 5 strokes.

I've held a sub 2:00 pace for a 2K (7:49.7); 30 minutes (7526m) and a 5K (19:58.9). The other ranked distances are all in the 2:01 to 2:03 range for me. All of them 4-5 years ago though at the fitness level I'm now at I could challenge some of those times but sub 2:00 pace isn't going to happen.

I did one marathon (3:20:18) about 4 years ago. I had 3 years of steady rowing (2MM+/year) under my belt before I tried and trained for the marathon following the C2 guidelines. The effort destroyed me for months. I doubt I'll ever do another.

Hi Kev - ( I hope you don't mind me calling you Kev?)

Wow, 8 years - thats dedication for you! Well done for sticking to it. Im 5ft 11, 208lbs (94kg) and 32 years of age. I did noticed a dramatic change in fitness physically as well as mental sharpness when i started rowing. I do tend to go overboard sometimes and generally only ever do 30min on the Concept2 rower Mon-Sat (thats about all i can do if im going all out). In addition to that i do 35 min on the cross trainer and i do an hour class too ( sometimes a 15min run ) depending how i feel. Most Saturdays i take part in a free park run (5km) and tend to do really well there but in saying all of this I am by no means super fit or anything like that but just mentally feel that i can achieve all of this. I started out doing small things and yea, just took it from there.

Ive improved a few stats since my last post any my PB - doing a 7,675m row in 30:00min averaging a 1:57.2 - I am really really REALLY keen on getting an 8k in 30 min but struggling with that one a bit.... I always seem to "die" out a the end and probably apply too much in the beginning!

Ive lost about about 15lbs since starting in the gym and coupled with the rowing but also would say that some of it is down to how I eat at the moment - combination of cous cous and vegetable stock, eat a fair few fruits throughout the day too - Ive also cut bread out all together (except on weekends)!

Anyway, here some figures from when i started (9 weeks now)

Overall 309,055m 22:19:54.5
Overall Week Average 9,970m 43:13.4
Active Week Average 34,339m 2:28:52.7


All i can say is keep going strong - you have a plan and sticking to it is the hardest part! I've almost come off the rails a few times due to being lazy but like you, have a target. In saying that, I hope you reach your 20lbs target - by the sounds of things your well on your way! - Thanks for your kind words and best of luck to future rowing! :)
