Yes, CONGRATS, Brett, and CONGRATS Barbara.
(I poured AJ a glass of Zin, last night, and said "good job, dear!")

Image There I was...rounding up the meters everyone produced yesterday (and a whopping 43 percent of the team produced meters! woot!)...and something was amiss. The spreadsheet was not balancing. There were 119 meters that I was struggling to account for in the day. Looking in the usual places didn't provide the answer. And then it hit me: I was witnessing A Small Act of Rebellion....and I was down the bunny trail practically before I knew it.

There are lots of things to say about the importance of small acts of rebellion - everything from challenging conformity, the importance of free will, and challenging "the system" - whatever that happens to be. Michael Stangier (http://www.pleasefeedtheanimals.com/201 ... y-stanier/ - if you want to read the whole thing ) wrote a blog on Six Small Acts of Rebellion in which he quoted Mike Abrashoff, the former Commander of the USS Benfold and author of It's Your Ship:

“If a rule doesn’t make sense, break it. If a rule does make sense, break it carefully.”

And so this leads me back to the 119 meters. Danno is a long time team member - and fierce competitor. Not being able to row right now meant not being able to contribute meters to the Fall Challenge. Not participate in a challenge?! Hah - unacceptable. He's found a way to contribute some meters...carefully. :D

This led me to also think about and want to comment on our adaptive rowers - we have several teammates who have challenged themselves to find another way to continue with their athletic careers and active lives. These are amazing teammates with some great stories to tell. The way that all are contributing is truly inspirational to everyone on the team. So glad that you each started with small acts of rebellion that said "there has to be a way"! There are 337 days until the 2012 Paralympics in London. They start on August 29 and run through 9 September.
Way to go Danno!

Adding my congrats to all - AJ, Brett, Barbara - and anyone else I have missed!

And nice work Minnie, sharing a Zin with AJ... (and no, I still haven't tried one!)

It was just sitting there looking forlorned and forgotten, I just couldn't help myself. With the drag set on 1 and a blistering 500/m split of 5:16 I didn't feel any harm would be done. Just finiished my daily walk 1.5 miles 32 minutes. Prior to surgery I couodn't walk 100 yards without stopping.

Tomorrow another chapter of.......

Keep pulling you Loonies!

Congrats to AJ, Brett, and Barb for their cool B) accomplishments. Awesome rowing!!!!

I use some small ( grandkids socks, washed of course  ) socks, 2 pair on each handgrip. They really make a comfortable grip. i also wear a wristband on each arm to help absorb the sweat that runs down my arms. I have tried the wristbands on the grips and this works well too.

The Gigantic Aussie Cupcake!! (it looked a little smaller in the oven)

I don't have any fall metres to contribute right now, but I'll try and get some in on the weekend.

I really keep meaning to row but then I get all busy and stuff.

I've missed a million accomplishments, so I'm sorry for all the missed cupcakes. And alas it's super late and I have to sleep so I don't have time to go through all the recent history. But in my brief front page glance I want to say WOOHOO!! to BG in reaching 10 Million Metres!

And to Dan, I really hope you're doing okay and that you feel better soon. And congrats on finding a way to get metres in.
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon..

I see Jerry Heath has joined us in the Fall Challenge. Your meters are welcome, even though you're a TimbukTOOer :) Beware Brett, Jerry's chasing you it seems

As I browse through the list of rowers affiliated with us for the Fall Challenge, I see some other non-Lunies in there as well. It's good to have you all as every meter counts :!:

I was on my way to a PB today for the 30m, and then got a phone call after 1167m. Grrr. Stopped the row. Telemarketers.

Retried, but took it a little easier on the next 30m, and got a phone cal after 1300m. My wife :). So paused the row and continued after the call, but lost about 9 minutes and thus only made if to 4700m or so for the 30 minutes. Did a 2k piece afterwards to make up for the lost time, and attempted a PB at the 500m and choked halfway in. Too tired I guess. I was sitting at an estimated 1:30 until then.

Time for 2 days of rest. My body needs it (as well as I need to get some cleaning done tomorrow and have a party on Thursday, so I doubt I'd find much time to row regardless). I've got a 20k lead on the final position in the top 10% for the challenge, which should last me until Friday (At least, I hope it will :) ).
Wim (attempting to get back into rowing shape).

WOW... thanks Kiba!! That will feed the whole Aussie rowing contingent for a week! :D :D
Great to hear from you - and I totally understand about the busy bit. Anything you get to contribute will be treasured by all!
Once you get out of the habit, it is amazing how easy it is NOT to row. Once I had a good reason not to get on to the C2 (torn rotator cuff); I became very comfortable not having a good reason to get back on to it! There is something in my psyche that loves the term "inertia" methinks...

Fall Team Challenge: Thru Day 13 of 31

Post by Kona2 » September 28th, 2011, 9:44 am

Total Challenge Meters = 10,830,465 m

Here's a link to the individual contributions of the Fall Challenge Team members - great rowing by all !

http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/team ... index=2537

Top Ten Percent Goalers: With 3,770 individuals now posting meters, those with this personal goal need to be at > 108,500 m

Percent participation: 85 percent Goal for this week is to get to 90 percent participation. That means with the current crew, we need to have 126 people putting some meters on the board. Need four more to find those ergs....

There are still two more days to join or (gasp) leave a Fall Challenge Team - after that, the rosters are frozen until the end of the challenge. As noted with yesterday's incoming and outgoing, this is still a season of volatility. Much can (and will) happen in the next two weeks as the race to the finish tightens up. We live for this !!

To the moon, mates, to the moon ! And back again !!

Post by Kona2 » September 28th, 2011, 12:08 pm

Welcome to new year round team member, Richard T. Looks like we have another horseman in the group! We wish you many good rowing sessions !

Meanwhile, Danno assures me that the meters he's uploading today were primarily from BEFORE he was given a timeout from rowing following his bypass surgery. Uh huh. That Rebel photoshopped photo is just too much, Dave H !

Season meters as of 151/365 = 59,646,512 m

Total meters on the day = 1,467,752 m

Oars in space (participation) = 44 percent ! Woot !

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

We have two individuals who are hitting their first 100K lifetime meters! Major milestone for those who are new to rowing - and it's always one to celebrate!! Don't know if the first 100K is the hardest, but it does seem that the meters go easier after that! Congratulations to Karyn M and Nicole !!!
