As one gets older they begin to see the benefits of being regular.

Congratulations on the PR! Aren't those rankings across all ages though? You still beat me by a long shot!

The nonathlon 2014 season is open for business.

I ranked 177 last season with 7265 points - not bad considering that I was in recovery mode for so many months.

Onward and upward this season.

I couldn't let the Global Marathon challenge go by without at least attempting to get 'er done.

So I got 'er done, but I'm thinking that I won't be doing too many of these during the rest of the year

Did a 2nd Half Marathon in 1:22:16.4, and for about a minute, I'm leading my age group (50-59 HW males) as #1 of 47 people who put their times up. So for right now I'm enjoying the moment.
Doesn't look like I'll get a 3rd one in before the end of the Challenge, since Tuesday night begins the holiday of Shavuot, so I won't be rowing then. (If I get a row in before the beginning of the holiday, it'll be more like a half hour or a 10K than an 82-minute HM.) To do one tomorrow night on 24 hours rest is a tough slog. (No, Lisa, those 2,300 meters I rowed after last week's HM weren't "fast" - I felt out of sorts, so I stopped & did 28 minutes of hard bicycling instead.)
So, I'll probably do a 3rd HM after the challenge officially ends, then try longer rows like 25K or 2 hours. When i'm able to do 25-26K without stopping, I'll line up some food & drink alongside my C2 and try to get a Full Marathon in before June. Maybe the FM will even be the row that takes me past 10 million meters.
And, because I got spoiled in the past, I refuse to row a marathon that takes me 3 hours or longer. So if I see I'm slowing down to the point that it will take me 3 hours or more, I'll stop & try again a few days later...

I thought we were calling our short rows "speed work".

I eat lots of pasta because I like pasta. You eat lots of pasta, but feel the urge to tell us that you are "maximizing the storage of glycogen in the muscles".

Capt. I will accept that challenge..... At the end of this posting this posting will self destruct. If I fail.

David W - 21,097 HM! Now knock off 30 seconds each day.

Great job. Team. What an outstanding start.
Got to row side by side with my wife tonight. Goal was to stay on the same s/m she did a 10k while I did an hour. It was a fun row.

BTW, this trail looks a LOT like the one I was on today! (I just stole this guy from some random Google image). The flora is definitely SoCal stuff.
Very inspirational! I'll watch for now...

Actually, I'd love to road bike, but I'm still trying to get my nerve up after riding into a grate and breaking my arm in 2 places. I was feeling proud of myself for whizzing along slippery, rain drizzled streets, and then, after arriving with a sigh of relief that I made it to the safety of the hospital (where I was working), there in the parking lot...wham! (Shamefully, this was a very, VERY, long time ago. Now I have storage limitations to contend with...an excuse that is looking thin even to me now. Like most things, I'll overcome it if I really end up wanting to do it.)

But watch I am: the Giro d'Italia is on TV in the morning, and the Amgen Tour of California gets shown at night. I tape both and row my not-so-little lard-butt off while watching now that I have a TV with a headphone jack. This, and watching those guys climb mammoth mountains, makes it easier to reach my once regular 20K because it's hard to quit, complaining about feeling tired. They don't quit until they're smeared all over the road and CAN'T move. (It also makes it easier to watch the races if I'm rowing; I'm not very good at spectator sports). It's also helped that I am now being treated for hypothyroidism, which goes one hell of a long way in explaining the insurmountable exhaustion I've felt for the past few months! Jeepers. At least that's one bogeyman off the list.

By the by, I was rowing too late last night to post before the cut off, so that makes only one rest day (forced, when other duties got in the way). I hope I can keep up this feeling of boundless enthusiasm....fingers crossed!
