SUMMERRRR....can't get here soon enough! Put your rowing machine out on the porch, the deck, the balcony (seatbelts are advised)!
I'm over winter already and it hasn't even started yet. Bit of a brisk start to the day up in the garage this morning... Enjoy your good weather.... :)

Bazzy, While you're bitching about the winter coming I'm bitching about the summer coming. Ya wanna trade houses for 6 months? I mean really, it's May 10 and already we've had 6 days over 90. Being beachside helps a few degrees now but not a whit in August.

Danno, you are the man :!: Or are you actually an android :?:
Ron

Steve Austin aint got nothin' on you, Doctor Dan! Congratulations on your astounding feat of rowing power!

Wikipedia: "As originally conceived by Caidin, Austin is a former US Army helicopter pilot who served in Vietnam before being transferred to the Air Force and then into NASA. As backup Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 17,[1] he became one of twelve astronauts to walk on the moon when the prime Lunar Module Pilot (LMP) broke an arm before launch.[2]

In the pilot episode of The Six Million Dollar Man, Austin's background is adjusted: he is a civilian test pilot who was the only civilian to walk on the Moon. In the regular series, however, Austin once again became a military man, holding the rank of colonel in the Air Force.

In both versions of his origin, Austin is testing an experimental lifting body aircraft[3] when a malfunction causes a crash. Austin's injuries are severe: both legs and one arm are lost, and he is also blinded in one eye and his skull is pulverized (the TV version does not suffer the skull injury). One of Austin's best friends is Dr. Rudy Wells, a doctor and scientist who is a specialist in the newly emerging field of bionics; unknown to Wells, a secret American government intelligence agency, the Office of Strategic Operations (OSO; later changed to Office of Scientific Intelligence or OSI for TV) has been looking at a way of reducing agent casualties. Their solution is to take a severely injured man, rebuild him with bionics, and create a cyborg—part man, part machine. Wells is ordered to perform the procedure on Austin, who expresses a desire to commit suicide after learning about the loss of his limbs.

The operation to rebuild him costs $6 million. Bionics are used to replace Austin's arm (his left in Caidin's original story; his right in the TV version) and both legs. Austin's eye is also replaced. Caidin and the TV series treat this differently; Caidin's Austin receives a sophisticated miniature camera (activated by pressing a hidden shutter implanted under Austin's skin after which the eye has to be removed before development of the film) but otherwise remains blinded in that eye, while the television version not only restores sight but also has extreme telescopic magnification and infrared capabilities. His legs and arm provide Austin with superhuman speed, strength and endurance (the latter because, Caidin writes, Austin's heart and lungs only need to power his torso, head and remaining arm). Caidin's character also had some additional bionic parts his TV counterpart lacked, such as a steel-reinforced skull, a poison dart gun built into one of his bionic fingers, and a radio transmitter built into a rib.

Both versions of the character are subsequently recruited into the OSO/OSI as a secret agent (and as an ongoing test subject for bionics). Austin becomes a top agent, travelling the world to fight everything from terrorism (the most common target of the literary version of the character) to alien invasion (in the TV version)."

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.10.11

Image Another episode of Bunny Trails of the Mind...

We were once newbies, too...

Image There are times when I look at the team roster, and wonder "who are these people?!" No - I'm not "losing it!" Usually this wondering occurs just prior to or during a team challenge when our team roster can quickly double in number. We're an open team year round, and we try to make our invitation to join us especially appealing during the challenges :D . Many of those who join us for a team challenge decide to stay on and join our year-round virtual team. And many sign on year after year. It's that year after year thing that led me down the bunny trail today.

BTF (before the team forum), all we could see about this moon mission was Kristine's invitation to join her in the continuing adventure...and compare HER invitation to that of OTHER team captains. Now, of course, we assume that since our team forum pages (all 600 plus of them) are open reading, that team members signing on know what they're getting into ....bwaa aaa aaa  . Thinking back to early team forum times, I was shocked  to remember that there was a time when I wasn't so vested in the team early on...yet the more times teammates shared what their goals were, and we celebrated achievements...well, you know what happened. So to all who are new (or wonder if they will ever be full residents of this lunar mission), we welcome and we like the new things and new interests that you bring to the team. And if you're more comfortable just being on the team and not posting - that's okay, too.

This year's team is indeed a special one! Do I say that every year?! But it's really true! Each rowing season we start out with a small core group of those who row just about every day year round. Data from previous years suggests that the initial number of sign ups is about 25 to 33 percent of the the total number of teammates who will finish the season with us. If this holds true for the 2012 season...wowzer, mates!

Welcome back Pat S, Rodrigo-go-go, and Mitch TSF! Here's a look at some of the stats when comparing where we were on May 10th in each of four previous seasons:

Image

Season meters as of 10/365 = 3,580,735 m

Total meters on the day = 420,974 m

Oars in space (participation) = 51 percent ! Whoop! Whoop !

You said it perfectly Ronnie. I most definitely agree :!:
Geezer Ron :D
Totally agree!! Love the name Ron btw. Last real team I was on, the inspirational leaders were Ernie and Ron.
Ernie had some great quotes like " The Cubs will shine in 69" and " Let's play 2"
C'mon K2 , give us some more !!!!!! You are the best. Any quotes for our team for 2011-2012 season?

I liked your story, Ron. So, what's the feminine of geezer? Geezette?

I've been out of town and out of touch all day ... you guys have been very prolific ... it's taken me so long to read through all the posts that it's now too late to row tonight!

Most dictionaries show geezette as the femine of geezer, though the Urban dictionary has geezelle. Kind of cool, sounds like a gazelle,
