Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hi Ron, yes it was one of the lesser known areas where the Allieds fought in Papua New Guinea. It is a shorter walk than the Kokoda Track, but more gruelling terrain...macbruce1 wrote:Hi Baz,BAZzy wrote:Another week rolls around, well at least this side of the line. Great rowing by all and have a good weekend wherever you are in the universe...
TomO has been on camp the last couple of days and is back today (Mum & Dad can’t wait!)...
Walk tomorrow, I’ve had the call from my Papua New Guinea walking partner and the Black Cat Track is on schedule for this September, you may recall it was cancelled last September...so need lots of walking time with the pack on!
Cheers, BBB
I am not familiar with the Black Cat Track but, a history geek, I have to ask if this was the trail taken by the allies during World War II as part of the Port Moresby campaign In the accounts I've read this was an extremely grueling trek over the mountains.
Ron
Come and join us!! The area is largely untouched, and has very few visitors each year, and plenty of war relics to be seen....
Here is a link to a blog I sarted to write ahead of last year's walk; I guess I'll get to completew it this year, hopefully.

Hi Rossrsdavr wrote:Kona2,
I can't say enough for the valuable service you provide our team with current info summaries, analysis, and encouragement. Thank you for all you do - and I'm sure you know far more than you post - with all your experience in the rowing universe. I have enjoyed my rowing with the Luna-Tics to the fullest and will continue to do so. And you are one of the biggest reasons why that is true.
After some careful thought and evaluation with my son (who is a certified cross-fit instructor and fighter pilot in the USAF at Vance AFB in Enid, OK), I believe I need to integrate more variety into my exercise program. As you know, cross-fit enthusiastically endorses the C2 erg. In fact, it is the only cardio machine they have ever endorsed. It was my son who got me started last year with indoor rowing as a way to enhance my recovery from heart surgery. It has done more than that. I have never been so fit in my life as I am now. Since starting to row, I have out-hiked and out-endured anyone who cares to trek the mountain trails of western North Carolina with me. People have asked me where they can get a pig valve like mine! I tell them its the erg and not the valve. All I want to do is move - and move with joy! I didn't know what I was missing!
But, I have some mobility issues to address and I need to enhance my overall coordination, agility, and strength in ways that I cannot do on the erg alone. Therefore, my son has put together a program for me that does just that. We have set up a gym in our garage (for less than $200.00, besides the erg), which includes the rower and the equipment necessary for basic fitness as designed by cross-fit. The program includes lots of rowing, but not just rowing. I'll not go into the specifics of cross-fit here. If you are interested you can go to http://www.crossfit.com and read to your heart's content.
All this to say that, while I will continue to row with enthusiasm, you will not see me posting half-marathons three or four times a week any longer. While my meter production will go down, my overall fitness will go up (my son says) and I will enjoy even greater total body function. Because I'm still working full-time (as so many other Luna-Tics are as well), I have only so much time to give to fitness and I must allocate it carefully.
Anyway, thanks for reading this "epistle". I have a feeling you will understand what I'm saying maybe even better than I do.
Ross
Good luck with this. I think the concept of cross-fit training is awesome, so enjoy!

Hi ROnmacbruce1 wrote:Hi Baz,
I will definitely put the Black Cat Trail on my "Bucket List" Over the years, I have been able to take very little vacation time. (Did you know that the US is second amongst industrialized countries in vacation "give back"? The Netherlands is first.) I'm going to have to get a bigger bucket soon Does the Black Cat Trail go over the Owen Stanley Range
Ron
No, Black Cat Track is in Morobe Province, the Kokda Track goes over the Owen Stanley Ranges, from Kokoda to Ower's Corner. The Kokoda is about 96 kilomtres, and the Black Cat Track is about 56 Kilometres. We did the Kokoda in about 6 days, and whilst hte Black Cat Track is proably no more strenuous, the terrain is more difficult and unforgiving...
The attraction, other than the military history is that vety few people walk it, making it largely untouched....

David T - usually you can search a user's posting history. Well, it wasn't there as you also found out. You joined the team on March 20, 2010 ... so I went back to that date. Once I found your first posting, I noted that you originally signed in as dtangerini as a user...then you became dtangeri this year (which is why it was not listed in the user's post search!) I was able to click on search user's posts, and there it was.... . Hah! I feel like I've had a successful data search!

i rowed 21,533 in one rowing session today and i was surprised to see that under my challenges tab in my online logbook, it still does not register that i rowed a half marathon.
do you have to row an exact 21,907 meters for it to qualify as a half marathon?
