Good mention for the club on the British Rowing website...shame about the geriatrics it's talking about!

WoooHoooo! Never thought I'd see such a thing having striven hard just to reach the dizzy heights of mid-table obscurity from the depths of "other British scores". But when I surprised myself by posting the top Brit time in my category for the recent virtual 1k competition I thought I'd check to see what the British record was. As expected, I was way off the pace (!)...but lurking a few lines lower was a very soft record for the 4min test. I emailed C2 with a link to my logged/ranked 4min from the Autumn and they have kindly recognised it as a new BR. I was tempted to keep schtum about it since otherwise I'll just bring it to the attention of the real fast people as an easy target for them, but that rather misses the point. For at least a few minutes I was a genuine British Record holder...and I will now always be that. Feels good! :D

5k Time Trial

Time................18:28.6
Pace................1:50.8
SPM.................35
DF....................115

4 seconds slower than my seasons best but having fallen back a bit since the world champs a month ago I'm now revving back up and getting proper fitness going again.

Ta for the congrats David and Rod - much appreciated. Well done yourself Rod on that 5K - did one similarly a fraction of my SB pace today but still very tough.
Good to see you back doing silly distances in hugely long sessions Dean - its no wonder you don't have time every day!

My latest log is:
18/3 Dumbbells and 30 mins varipace for 7575m @ 1:58.8
19/3 10x1min r1. I wanted 10x305m but didn't get there. 3x306;3x305 then 303;294;296;and 311 for a 3037 against an SB of 3052.
20/3 4min test. I was going to see if I could crack the 1200m for the BR but didn't make it even half way on pace and just paddled in for 1111m. Daft to try it the day after a 10x1min all out effort!
21/3 Dumbbells and 5k @ 20 in 19:59.1 - spot on!
24/3 5kTT for the Sub7 ITC. SB is 1:52 pace so set off at that and managed all the splits at 1:52.x with a 1:51.5 last for a 1:52.3 overall ... just 3 secs behind SB. Very tough but happy enough with that.

60 minutes Time Trial

Metres............................15,568
Pace...............................1:55.6
DF..................................110

An hour of (not much...) power this morning.

This was 1.8 seconds on average pace faster than 2 weeks ago but 2 seconds slower than I did back in October so I've got plenty of work to do yet if I'm going to hit my target of 1:55.6 for a HM...

....just gotta keep my nose to grindstone!

Mike...........nice 5k mate, I'm sure if you did it again there would be a SB for you, still nearly a week to go!

10k Time Trial

Time................37:26.1
Pace................1:52.3
DF...................115
SPM..................34

5.8 seconds (0.3 on pace) slower than my seasons best but I'm still working back to full fitness so happy with that.

I should be much faster by the end of next month as it's the ITC for April...so will have a few goes. :D

Moohasive congratulations Mike and as you rightly say, you will always be a BR holder, either current or former and can never be taken away. Nice one and good spot

My absence on this page has been a bit like my rowing - fairly non existent in quantity and quality.

Having gone through the euphoria of the Hamburg ergomarathon I have only just got over a nasty 2 week coughing lurgy, suffering from some weird muscle/nerve problem in my legs which is being worked on and now just been diagnosed with an infected root canal, (lucky it is not painful as the tooth and roots are dead but antibiotics and a trip to the dentist to remove it in April).

My challenge times are laughable:

10k - 44:43.4 (could hardly hit 2:18 by the end)
5k - 21:57.7 (rubbish I know but as good as I can do at present)
2 x 15 mins - 3335m and 3329m, so consistently crap 2:15.x pace

PS After wondering whether I would ever get to Italian C2 champs in Rome Sun 25 March, (firstly because of the organisers not allowing entries until March and then them being blocked online, then due to being in bed most of weekend 10/11 March feeling tired, aching and coughing like mad so missed my opportunity to book decent direct flights from Birmingham, and then suffering big time on Saturday before the race from shafted legs walking round Rome trying to find the venue and the way into the Centre) I did it.

By the time I got to booking the flights were £500+ to go to Rome, so I ended up with going to Milan and a 4 hour train journey each way, (killer early start on Fri). :o Luckily although this made the journey about 11 hours home-to-hotel there were no unexpected delays.

I had planned to stay walking distance of the venue deliberately as the start time wouldnt be confirmed until Friday which was too late for me. Rocked up at 8:25 Sunday only to be told to go away as it was too early, (couldnt really see the point of standing outside until the official 8:30 but it was sunny). Sat on a marble slab and sneaked in with Prosport Trento team a few minutes later who became my buddies for the rest of the day, (my Italian lingo is very limited so great to meet some English speakers). B) Fun and games at accreditation but fortunately found my name on the list - I was the only Sub7 member and probably the only foreigner looking at the names, (forgot to pay initially so had to go back and hand over my 20 euros). Weighin was another shambles way after the official 9am so luckily hit 61.0kg first time. Warmup was disrupted as the organisers said I could only warmup 15 minutes before the race, (although noticably others pleased themselves). :x Having died in a coughing fit I realised that going above 2:07 pace was not a good idea, so had to aim at 8:30 result which is nowhere near my usual standard. Was in 4th off the start but it didnt take long to eat the field of 50LWTs, (by 800m in I was in 1st place of 5) - I had expected a 3rd but noone took me on so just kept pulling away until I finished with a 45m lead. Didnt understand the commentary but my name got mentioned a lot :D I know a win is a win but this one was slightly embarrassing as it was my worst performance for over a decade. 8:33.9 was as fast as I could go on the day which earnt me a Tshirt, medal and C2 shoe bag.

Got through the 5k this morning in 21:57.7. Yuk! Might try something more substantial on Monday.

No rest, just using the r18 to get a breather back. 10W/Stroke

90 minutes

Metres.....................22,361
Average pace.............2:00.7
SPM........................33
DF..........................112

90 minutes of fun this morning.

This was 74 metres further than 2 weeks ago and 0.4 faster on average pace so the Half Marathon plan is working nicely. :D

Susan...........Well done on winning in Italy, yet again the journey sounds like the hardest part, you should go around the world in 80 days, Philias Fogg has got nothing on you!

70 minutes (as fast as possible!)

Metres....................18,177
Averge pace.............1:55.5
DF.........................109
SPM.......................34

Last week 60 mins in an average of 1:55.6. This week 70 mins in an average of 1:55.5 so further and faster...which is good progress towards the HM at 1:55.6 pace I need to do to get the British 60-69 Lwt record.

It was very hard though..my Max HR of 179 was higher than any formula I've found...so easy stuff now for a few days...very easy!

Dean...............Thanks for the support, rating high just feels natural, I've tried lower but can never go as fast and it feels uncomfortable so I guess I'm stuck with it!
