Jim,
We are honored to have you and any of your teammates join the Lunatics. I am sorry to hear about the added stress of MS on top of the stroke. You are and always will be a LUNAtic and that means you are full of strength, determination, and a willingness to succeed. You have a ton of supporters behind you! All the best!
Karyn
Thank you Karyn, that is so sweet. :)
I guess I am going to keep the O.D. team open for the 4 of us on it.
It is a full circle event with MS. The first century ride Jay and I did together was for MS , back in 1993. We did 5 after that . He stills does them.
We are going to watch the Bears game this afternoon together and row . He rows the 1st quarter, me the 2nd, etc.
Unless the Packers start slaughtering us  Then I guess we will go for a walk.

Jim, I really encourage you to leave the O.D. team on the boards, both as a C2 team affiliation option and as a Team Room here on the forum. The cool thing is, once a team is envisioned and created by a single person, it can soon take on a life of it's own, and go on living and growing and being a "home" for anyone with whom that particular team resonates with. It's like you have given birth to a new creation, and it now exists on it's own even when you cease to participate on it.

Since no team member will even show up on the year-round team roster until his or her first posting of meters in any new rowing calendar year, at some point in time every single team founder will eventually cease to show up on the roster of the team he/she founded - that part is inevitable - so there is really no reason why you should disband the O.D. team. It is okay to "share the load" with others, step back from it, and take care of what you need to as life demands, and let the others on the team carry on - that is what a "Team" is all about.

The O.D. team is a fantastic idea, and I believe there are a lot of people across the boards who are and will continue to gain inspiration and motivation from the guys and gals who have posted their particular situation and motivation for being on that particular team on forum or profile. I, for one, am totally in awe and inspired by the strong people that were on the O.D. team in such a short time, and was really looking forward to watching the team develop and grow over the years.

And speaking of being inspired by other teams, I am also amazed and inspired by the men and women on The Ancients team. I will never leave the Luna-Tics, but I want to be like them when I grow up. :D

To all our new team mates who came over from the O.D. team, you are all an inspiration, and will continue to be, no matter which team you are affiliated with. Reading your stories on your profiles is a good reminder to us all that we never know when life may take a major left turn on us, and present us with a whole new set of unexpected challenges. None of us is exempt from that possibility. Thanks for sharing a bit of your personal life with the world - and being a real life example of hope and success.

(There is a way to set up the team so that they are not connected with your personal profile, thus making it easier for the team to continue on even if you have to stop rowing at some point. You can email me for help with that if you like.)

Good job, Karyn. Good job, everyone, on all the milestones.

(It's doubtless my imagination, but does Karyn's cartoon appear to be paddling faster than others ... ?)

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 1.22.11

Post by Kona2 » January 23rd, 2011, 3:50 pm

Woohoo and hooyah! We have 98 days remaining in the rowing year....what will you do with them?!!

The team teleport has indeed been busy. All are welcome to stay as long as they want to stay - this is for fun, not for more stress! We want to celebrate lots of positive things, overcome adversities, and be good teammates. Yes, I accidentally hit the wrong key on this computer....and bye, bye almost complete posting! No, it can't be, I wailed....but, yep, it happened...again. Hahahaha - gotta laugh about it.

The magic lunar landing number.....the number you are looking for in the team affiliations totals is:
95,238,108 m

When we reach that number, we will have accomplished the "official" goal meters established in 2007 as 384,000,000 m to the moon. At that moment, we will be able to put a Well Done, Mission Accomplished stamp on the efforts of many different rowers from many different countries during the time period of 2003 to 2011. That's a long time for any group to stay collectively focused on an objective....especially when most of us don't even know each other except through these virtual friendships we've fostered through our common goal.

We're going to take that victory lap of an orbit: 11,526,910 m and then land a fleet of ergs on the lunar surface! Pretty exciting stuff to anticipate!

Season meters as of 268/365 = 92,851,845 m

Total meters on the day = 6,227,551 m (astrogator faints)

Oars in space (participation) = 36 percent

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

3.7 MM Danno
2.9 MM Jerry
1.3 MM Kenneth G
1.0 MM Anita
1.0 MM Bart
700 K Michelle

Thanks to all who rowed today - stellar rowing, absolutely stellar! Sorry about no biggie graphics - just don't have the time...again

I am so sorry . I feel tied to Jim and the Overcoming Disabilities team. Even though he doesn't want us on the team, I am staying with him.

Good for you, Ronnie! I think a fundamental principal of 'team' is being supportive, and you demonstrate this.
