Also Rick and Fred (if you're on fb Fred?) - would be great to have you both as members of the 'Diamonds', and of course anyone else who is 60+, or approaching that age. Graham?
Hi Georgie - I am not very good at the FB thing but will do my best to work it out (I know that sounds a bit weird in the 21stC). I am in transit today to Brussels so hoping to do some writing.

I think that nominating the march challenge as the Bob Spenger Memorial (5142m single distance) is a good idea and that we can decide to do that now and let Citroen know. It would be good to create a link to the Obit thread here to help people understand the significance to those not familiar. Thoughts??

It's easy to do the link to Bob's obit.
When you're ready post the rules/details on the CTC thread.

Lindsay, one of the main reasons was that Mike Forder has asked if it was possible to meet up again if you were travelling back via London. Apologies if he's contacted you by another means. Happy to pass on a message if need be.

It was nice to have a little Forum Flyers gathering yesterday at the WIRC. Sorry to have missed jackarabit. Maybe next year?

Well done Guys, never raced over overthere myself, but know the feeling of the bigger races. Always nice to watch also, and get faces with names you know online.

Hadn't heard from Mike but have just dropped him an email to have a chat. Hopefully we will see each other here (Oz) or there in the UK - I am really keen to come back sometime soon but hard to organise of course. It would be great to do BRIC etc.

Certainly many FFs with more CTC experience and closer to Bob than me so please edit/improve before we add to the CTC thread:

CTC March 2017.

The Bob Spenger Memorial 5142.

In memory of the late Bob Spenger, who sadly passed away earlier this year viewtopic.php?f=7&t=153937, the March 2017 CTC will be a single row of 5,142m.

Whilst his slew of competition victories and 38 current world records (including all distances and times from 500m through to a full marathon) are testament to his achievements on the erg, this challenge also recognises his huge contribution to the world of indoor rowing, with 5,142 being the number of posts Bob made to the current iteration of the Concept2 Forum.

Please record your time taken for a row of 5,142m.

For me it looks very good. Maybe add a standing start. This looks obvious but we don't want any discussions about it I think.

Yep looks good to me, agree, just add in the standing start bit, someone is bound to say it, although for me, i'd rather be sitting

I like it - looks good. I agree we should stipulate a "standing" start and I think also maybe a stipulation that it must be rowed as a single piece? Otherwise people will just take it out off something else which in this case reduces/removes the significance of the actual meters.

Thanks for the feedback folks - updated the final line. Given we're only at the 14th might wait a bit longer before copying across to the CTC thread to give others the chance to give feedback - though if anyone disagrees with that obviously feel free to copy across now!

well done Rohan - I would wait until the Carol McNally Memorial is done I guess out of respect.
It will be well received and is richly deserved.
unfortunately I was unable to do the CTC today as the gym I was hoping to use in Brussels near the apartment is closed down - it was a great gym too.
Didn't arrive until 2pm after the overnight from Boston and couldn't find an alternative erg - bummer and not sure how I will train tomorrow.

Hello Forum Flyers!

I just the FF group/affiliation as well as the 2017 team on the C2 website. I was looking on the forum (still quite new to forums) for an online group and a couple of FF members said some encouraging words when I posted my first thread. Thank you lindsayh and hjs! Not sure of any requirements to be on the team so if there are please let me know.

Purchased the Model E last month and I'm now up to a 20 minute workout which for me translates to approximately 3500-3600m. Looking forward to take part in the CTC in honor of Bob Spenger. He must have passed a few days before I joined. I read up on him through the links listed above - sounded like a great man. I'm definitely going to work up to the 5142m distance in one workout so he continues to motivate - RIP.

Looking forward to logging some meters for the team :D
