Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Just got back from the doctors today; another good report. Cholesterol levels remain low, my BMI is finally in the healthy range, and all other things like thyroid, PSA, etc. are all in a good range. A big change from two years ago, and all improvements due to a healthier diet and rowing like a madman for 5 - 6 hours per week. No drugs involved!
My diet falls somewhere between Dr. Joel Furhman's (http://www.drfuhrman.com) "Eat to Live" diet of beans and greens and the dietary guidelines prescribed at the "World's Healthiest Foods" website: http://www.whfoods.com. With the odd bag of Doritos thrown in every now and then, of course.
So, in a good mood, I came home and rowed a 6K in 20:58.8, a 1:44.9 pace, and a new PB for me.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Jim, that is much awesomeness about your doc's report!! And I doubt the odd bag of Doritos here and there does you too much harm, as long as they're not the 5-pounders they sell at Costco!
Gotcha all youse guys on your goals. I upped mine to 200k as well. I'm going to try to streak the challenge -- row something every day even if it's a k or 2.
Dunno where the Cap'n is, so I'll just continue posting. Maybe the pirates got him!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Note to self: Don't ever take two weeks off. I seem to have lost all momentum It's coming back though.
Also every time I think I'm pushing myself and doing really good I try to up my game and realize how much room there is for improvement still.
I've been playing with stroke speed and power some. trying to use more power with slower stroke speed because my old slow-and-steady approach was to focus on 700 cal/hr and ignore my stroke which hovered in the 29-32 spm range.
I am hovering in the 800 cal/hr range and 28-30 spm now. it's hard to sustain though thats for sure. I am beginning to view my erg as an endurance leg press machine - and its a crazy workout now. Who needs weights?

UPDATE on over-the-road rowing:
Today was my first day rowing on the road. I just finished a few minutes ago at a DOT gravel storage facility next door to a truck stop in Moss Hill,TX. All things A-OK. The erg house is doing its job. I feel great -- gotta go, need to cover another hundred miles or so.
