Forgot to add another snippet about the Challenge. I was reading something by a participant who was saying that in one particularly rough spot, there was a bunch of seasick kayakers barfing over the sides of their boats. Hmm, did I VOLUNTEER to do this?? Should I bring a bucket?? Actually, I'm pretty good in rough water. I used to be an avid kayaker, back before it was popular. Had a 18' searunner. People would see it and you'd get comments like how come your white water kayak is so long?? Make a long story short I was in 6' seas one time. Climb over one wave, down the other side and the next wave would break over my head. Then repeat for about 2 hours. If that didn't make me sick-nothing will. This is gonna be fun :)

Sounds like a gut-buster to me. You are made of very stern stuff, and I'm glad you're getting psyched!!

Speaking of barfing... You MUST be taking some sort of food with you, no?

Food-Yep. The dory will hold 800 lbs. I'm 200, so there's JUST enough room for a snack

LOL!!!

Hey Mark, when you've conquered this challenge and are ready for something a little more relaxed (and musical), maybe you can try something like this with the dory...

Well, not quite as exciting as the Blackburn Challenge, but I did manage to rip out a 10K in 35:59.4 today, for a PB. :D

(And Cap'n Izz, that was a +10 on the Nonathlon  )

That is good

35:59.4 for 10K-Holy Crap!!!! Now I definitely feel the turtle like speed that I usually attain. And as for the freestyle thing-definitely NOT my kind of thing.

Did you hear the clapping? No one claps for our meters getting posted every day,... I'm just saying. If you are going to clap, clap for Lisa.

As for the kid in the boat, he believed his parents when they told him he was special. The rest of us knew it was just something they say and were therefore spared from the thousands of hours required to be good at something that will likely get you beat up by the chess club or virtual indoor rowing team.

Thanks Andy! :D

I always wonder about the first person to ever come up with an idea like this canoe dancing thing...

Hi Lisa

Hate to take credit where it is not due- didn't do a half marathon.

Had to travel to Europe, managed to get on a concept 2 saturday and sunday so the distance is a combination of those days posted when I got back.

Six days without a machine (including one hotel who's "fitness centre" was a sauna) has decimated my daily average I reckon I am 23,000+ metres behind so it looks like 9-10 k per day (without days off) to catch up this month unless I put in a long row (don't ask why its just a personal target with no real signifigance)

Bit of a nuisance as I had been going to have a go at improving some of the shorter ranking times and if I go for a quick 2000 I am in no state to do another 8k or more particularly unlike some on the board cannot put a fast 2000 in the middle,I have to set a pace for the day and stick round it.

Don't know whether to feel sorry for those suffering the heat wave or envious, we have had the coldest wettest June on record with July predicted to break the same miserable record, the part of Germany I was in was complaining of the same and it rained continously in Belgium!!!!!

Think I need an arc not a dory.

Keith

Sweet! My best ever was a 36:08, so I need to get down to business... I just did a 21:34.4 in a 6K (time pressure), knocked a minute off my last time. I like to knock my time down in increments. Don't have time to add my better times to Nonathlon yet. Still haven't done a 1K & 2K yet, which are the hardest races for me, since you have to go down to the very bottom of the tank at the end of those.
Again, make sure to take rest, so your tendons and ligaments have time to strengthen. (I assume 24 hours covers your heart and most muscles.)

Hey TimBukTooians!!

Concept2 has a new challenge coming up to keep you from becoming a couch potato during the upcoming Olympics!! It's the Rowlympics and PaRowlympics Challenges!! (I don't think we have any adaptive rowers, currently, so I'll just describe the Rowlympics...

The Concept2 Rowlympics and PaRowlympics challenges coincide with the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These rowing challenges celebrate the spirit and competition of the Games: represent your country by earning virtual medals (gold, silver, bronze) for the number of hours rowed. Hour totals are cumulative and do not need to be completed in one sitting.

The Rowlympics Challenge runs from July 27–August 12. For a "Gold", row 15 total hours across the challenge dates, Silver - 10 hours, Bronze - 5 hours. This is an individual challenge.

More details can be found here: Rowlympics and PaRowlympics Challenges.
