So, I did an hour this A.M., did about 12.8K, and checked my ranking. 142 out of 154-ugh. I was not happy with that until I started to think-here I am with with the lowest disc removed from my spine, and 2 others blown out above where it used to be. I can't get the big bursts right at the start of a stroke-bad position to be pulling hard in for me. Well, now I actually feel pretty good about my place in line. And I am about to do a 20 mile race that most people won't attempt. Hmmm, I guess changing my perspective helps. B)

Yup, perspective is huge. Seems these days I'm seeing more and more people my age battling debilitating illnesses or plagued by issues that prevent them from even getting active. So sad, and it makes me so I'm grateful for what I'm able to do. Happiness is an inside job!!

How's the race prep going? Is there any thing you do different to train for it?

If there was a ranking for effort you would be higher than 142! I did an hour last night, limped over 14k, but I've still got all my parts. Good luck on your race. Keep it shiny side up...wait... does that saying apply to boat racing?

Hi Mark, forget competing against others. Compete against yourself; you are your best competition. Just try to do better than you did last time.

And you're right; that ocean race you are entering is way out of my league!

As for what I do for training. Pretty much the same thing I usually do. Get on the erg and go-trying to concentrate ion using my upper body more-my Wherry is fixed seat so it's mostly the upper body that gets worked. I'm fairly confident I can finish-that's my main goal anyway. I just want to be able to complete it. I'll find out in a couple of weeks, I guess. :?

All the luck in the world.

I'd say 'break a leg' but I'm not sure that works in this situation either :D

I seem to have come down with a touch of patello-femoral pain syndrome. Anyone have any experience with it you can share? I think I can stick with some rowing since it's not weight bearing... But one article advised against running on hills. Ha! That's all I do.........

I really like this idea. Did you buy one on this Web site? I'm a little hesitant to enter credit card information on sites I know nothing about.
No, I just met the guy while he was displaying at the CRASH-B's in 2011. (I sat on it, it was quite comfortable, tho I didn't want the iPod pocket, since I want to concentrate fully on my rowing...)

Thanks Izzz. I use music as a metronome so this may be a nice thing to have.

Had to look this one up - sounds bad. I read that strengthening the quads will help in the long run. Not sure that's a good idea in the short term. Good luck with this and get better soon.
