14 Luna-Tics have now met the basic and/or advanced Challenge distances! AJ suggests that we use the distances across some of the lunar features as distance "awards" or markers in keeping with our lunar theme during the challenge season, so if anyone has some thoughts on how that could best be captured, throw those ideas out here! Something to think about while you're on that erg!

Here are some LUNA-Tic Challenge distances for your consideration:

Humboldt crater 100km diameter
Image

Theophilus crater 207km diameter
Image

Sea of Cleverness 318km (far side of moon)
Image

Sea of Crises 418km
Image

Sea of Serenity 707km

Congratulations, Steven, on achieving a ONE million meter season!
Steve Congratulations! Moose

AJ - I like your 100k, 200k, 300k, 400k (Crisis???), and 700k suggested recognition plateaus named after features on the moon for challenges. I do think there needs to be a one million meter plateau, since it is truly an outstanding effort and we Luna-Tics have seen outstanding rowers achieve this and beyond in past challenges. And maybe there should be plateaus beyond one million meters? For selfish reasons I think there should be a 500k plateau for me. If I stay healthy and am not roaming around on a trip somewhere during the challenge, rowing 400k is very doable for me. However, I need to push myself to get to 500k. A 500k recognition plateau could be extra incentive to row harder. And I guess the same would hold true for other team members at 600k, 800k, and 900k? So from my perspective the ideal would be 100k, 200k, 300k, 400k, 500k, 600k, 700k, 800k, 900k, 1 MM, 1.1MM, 1.2MM, 1.3MM, 1.4MM, and over 1.5MM qualifies as a Jedi Master Rower, recognition plateaus. My $.02.

Fall Challenge Team Update

Post by Kona2 » September 27th, 2010, 11:42 am

Wow - it was such a blue sky day....couldn't help but be out on the bike....passed a pumpkin farm in Boulder County that was just opening for season sales...love the orange season!

Meanwhile, the team rowed on! Almost FIVE million team meters by 69 teammates in the virtual boat - and we're locked in a battle for third place! Well, we'll be locked after Thursday - all rosters close on 30 September....so if you want to participate on a team - sign up!!

15 Teammates have surpassed the 100 or 200K Fall Challenge Metric.....do take a look at the lunar distance awards that AJ has been hard at work on! Stellar stuff, AJ! I can just imagine that Luna-Tic Fall Challenge Tee Shirt that could be created from one of those distance awards....it would be quite unique!

Moose, thanks for the comment.

You're right, of course, about the missing challenge meters. Here is the list that I have so far:

Lunar Feature, km

Sea of Cold, 1596
Sea of Showers, 1123
Sea of Fertility, 909
Sea of Tranquility, 873
Sea of Serenity, 707 (icon made)
Southern Sea, 603
Sea of Islands, 513
Sea of Crises, 418 (icon made)
Sea of Cleverness, 318 (icon made)
Humboldt crater, 207 (icon made)
Theophilus crater, 100 (icon made)

As you can see, I haven't made all the icons yet and haven't found lunar features for 800, 1000, 1200, 1300, 1400, and 1500 km.

Jan suggested getting comments from our other LUNA-TICS before moving forward.

Whoa --- we've been bumped to fourth place in the team challenge -- rats! These two week long sign up periods are just too long....unless, of course, we get more teammates....then it's cool! All is relative in the challenge season!

Sorry to hear that you had some complications. Barbara - I know this is very disappointing and disheartening to you. You're a Luna-Tic trooper, though, so here's wishing you good healing! The team will be here when you're ready to row...in the meantime, we'll send positive thoughts your way!

Wowzer, AJ - can't decide which one I like the best (Sea of Islands?) - they're all good! I vote we keep all of them for use with multiple challenges....
