Sequence

Post by just27 » August 9th, 2010, 4:46 pm

OK, for all our sequence-oriented team members ...today at 5:06:07 ... it will officially be 5:06:07 on 08/09/10....WAHOO!!!!

Of course, this is a bit late for most time zones and doesn't work at all for those countries which write the day before the month, and/or use a 24-hour clock! Apart from that ... cool, huh!

Well...there has been an unfortunate development with the Black Cat Track trek.

We have had to post-pone (indefinitely) due to civil unrest, which has been ongoing, but escalating, in the area at the beginning of the walk. Whilst tribal differences, leading to fighting often occurs in this area the situation has taken a drastic turn for the worse in the past few days and it has become difficult to read and unpredictable to the point that the risk reward of going is no longer worth it. It is fortunate we have good intelligence on what has been happening as it isn’t appearing in the press...or even on the Government’s travel advisories.

And the insurance company has now said it will not provide cover if we go, which makes it difficult as putting aside the civil unrest issue the risk of accidental injury is ever-present on this trek in this remote part of Papua New Guinea and the cost of a medical evacuation (very) expensive.

The window for this trek tends to be fairly narrow so it looks like we will not be able to complete until mid to late 2011......

Big Bad Baz :(
