Excellent article!! Most comprehensive explanation of drag and damper settings I've seen.

I did get a chuckle out of this though... "Pick a pace (time per 500 meters) and a stroke rate that is comfortable for you to maintain—perhaps something like a 2:00 pace and 28 strokes per minute."

 Yeah. 2:00 pace. Ahem.

Agreed funny! Little did I know with that monitor at the gym. Comfortable to maintain? Now that I can see my pace and strokes I have some work to do. Does anyone think that is really a "comfortable" pace?

When I was younger, I used to work out with free weights a lot. Over time, what was once the "workout" became the "warmup". The same I find true in rowing. Over time, a pace that once seemed a killer becomes the "comfortable" pace.

You just have to stick with it, set goals, be determined, and be prepared to sweat a lot!

I hope you have great success with your new rower!

(Is this you?)

(I googled tough mudder images. Unbelievable!! Not for this wimp!!!)

No, that is not me, but the setting is quite familiar. The worst of the obstacles for me, was 'Walk the Plank" which is a 15' platform above the water (really cold, limestone mine water.) Now the 15' isn't bad, but combined with the 10' difference between the grade where the platform was affixed and the water line made for a long jump. It seemed that I screamed and had time to scream again before hitting the water. OK, maybe an overstatement, but damn, it was far.

I have nothing to do with either of these, but these are some of the better vids of the event:

Once my knee feels better, I'll probably be inclined to do it again next year.
