Well as they used to say in the cartoons;

"Thats all folks"

Just grabbed a few minutes this morning to crack the 300k before finishing the packing and heading for the Airport.

Hoping it's not my season over but won't be able to post metres until the 29th, if I ever get access to a C2!!!!

See you all next time.

I took too long a break after March Maddness. I won't hit my goal for the challenge, but I should beat my FTC numbers. Despite coming up short for the team, March Maddness did greatly increase my endurance and speed. I also row 100% feet out now. I'd rather be slow without straps than slow with straps.

I don't think I could do well without strapping in. What is the advantage to not using straps? :?:

Thanks!

For me it makes me use my legs more efficiently and keeps me from pulling and extending my foot..if that makes sense.It plants the feet and allows for the foot to push as a unit instead of toes or heels.The straps place a great deal of strain on the achilles tendon and ankles..if proper form is used..it is ok but without the straps..the feet must stay in place, flat and a great push is felt.Just MY take..:-)

I always warm up with my feet out of the straps. That makes you work more on your "core" (abdomen muscles) which makes you concentrate on not pulling back up to the catch so with your legs. When you are rowing sweep, sliding forward to the "catch" is the only break you get. The boat is supposed to slide under you... it gets real technical. We will do drills in the boat rowing with out feet out of the shoes to instill this principal...
Finally getting time on the water!!!!

The worst part is I don't even have a good story. I wasn't doing anything cool, dangerous, fun, or fast. Wasn't doing first-aid. I was just poling into the lift (going straight, not skating, weight centered, etc) when ---zing!--- ...felt like somebody jammed a needle into my knee. Skied/worked the rest of the day (of course) but after a week decided that it was time to see the ortho-dude.

Prognosis is good, just need to take it easy for a bit.

Stupid skis.

Rowing feet out (or strapless) forces me to keep the ball of my foot in contact with the erg at all times. It takes stress off my hip flexors by making it more difficult to cheat on the recovery by encouraging me to get my torso back into position and hands out in front of me early in the recovery movement. It also prevents me from leaning back too far or throwing myself into the finish. I have to keep good balance throughout the stroke. Here’s a crossfit article that probably explains it better than I can:
