K2,
Just a note to say Good Morning. You were pretty lonesome on the board over the long week-end, but ever the worker bee posting the stats. Thanks a lot. Sometimes the only thing that will make me get on the erg is knowing tomorrow I will see my name in lights. LOL

My, K2, but you have sturdy little hummers in your mile-high climes. He looks bigger than our blue jays.

Danno, I'm starting to watch the first season of "Hawaii 5-0" ... will be thinking "book 'em" up in lights.

Reporting back after a really nice, and extra long weekend stay in Sister Bay, Wis with leisurely visits to mostly galleries in the great Wisconsin Door County little towns of Fish Creek, Ellison Bay, Gills Rock, Ephraim, and Egg Harbor. Especially enjoyed sipping wine on my upper story motel room deck, watching the sun set sizzling into Green Bay (Lake Michigan) each evening from a park adjacent to the marina and across from my motel, and having broiled whitefish covered with paprika and crunchy fried onions for supper. Better than the Lake Michigan perch and that's saying some. They even had Spotted Cow Ale with it's hint of cloudiness and yeastiness, but no Uff Da bock, in Sister Bay.... But I really didn't think it was appropriate to drink the Naked Ale in public so I passed on that experience.

Whoa.....cruising along towards the moon when Rocket Man flew by yesterday....the resulting sonic boom reverberated throughout the day...like prisoners, the crew numbers were captured...but not posted.

Welcome back, Rocket Man and welcome new team member Anthony F to the lunar mission!

For those new to the team, and those who might be just visiting the team room to see what's up, here's a quick explanation of our unique distance milestones:

Image Mega-moon: any distance greater than 100K posted in a single day...usually a new or returning team member with many meters to upload to the team piggy bank
Image a supernova designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent of 100,000 m in a 24 hr period (yep....we have one who does this)
Image a red giant designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent or more of 50,000 m in a 24 hr period
Imagea full moon designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent or more of a full marathon 42,195 m in a 24 hr period
Image a half moon designates that the individual has rowed the equivalent or more of a half marathon 21,097 m in a 24 hr period
half or full marathons are completed in one sitting; half or full moons can be comprised of several meter sets put together for those distances within a 24 hr period

No kidding. It was fun, having texted "asides" from Colorado during the game! Good heads-up on the pitching change. (And the end score was also fun ... :) )

Panda Minnie and the San Francisco Giants game

Post by Kona2 » June 3rd, 2010, 8:06 pm

Here's the scoop about Panda Minnie and the San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies game - not a bit of fan competitiveness here! Hah! Game time finds me in Colorado watching the late Pacific time zone telecast of the game that Minnie, lucky rowing mouse that she is, has won tickets to go see. Right after the ONLY Colorado run scored (but it was a beautiful home run by Tulo) for the Rockies, Minnie sends a camera phone picture of the AT&T ballpark and her GREAT view from the seats behind home plate - kind of along the first base line - of the game, San Francisco bay lurking on the other side....I was TOTALLY envious. As the game progressed (not well for Colorado - and a pitching change predicted), I start noticing that the SF fans have some crazy Panda headgear. Now this IS San Francisco after all - so should we be surprised?! I texted Minnie to ask what was with the Panda hats. Turns out that Pablo Sandoval, the big guy who plays 3rd base, is nicknamed Kung Fu panda. And he can move pretty quickly when he needs to do so! There's a growing number of Sandoval fans who wear the Panda hats....Next I get the following camera phone picture (compliments of AJ I think) of Panda Minnie and her cub, Dave.

Image

Not sure if it is evident in the photo, but apparently the ballpark version of the Panda hats are a little more fierce...the ballpark version doesn't just have a cute Panda smile, those Panda hats have some intimidating looking teeth! Great to see a home game and win!

Chris - I like the new look photo on your profile. That hat certainly has possibilities for multi-purpose. Looks like it would make a good musher hat. Mush! you Giants!

I must admit I am totally impressed with Concept2's person of the day, Katie Gehrz. It takes both strength and finesse to one person a canoe up on one's shoulders to carry it; and the obvious breeze in the photo requires even more strength and control in lifting a canoe. The canoe in the picture is a tandem cedar rib and canvas canoe, (might even be a Seliga canoe) which probably weighted in at 70 to 85 lbs before it started absorbing water that could add an additional 15 lbs or so. So in this case Katie is showing us, she is one STRONG gal! I'm speculating that she is one of those super women from Camp Wigiwagan that go for summer long canoe adventures in the Far North of Canada. I gave up lifting portaging aluminum or canvas canoes 2 decades ago.
