Land of Cacti

Post by Kona2 » May 19th, 2010, 10:59 pm

Hooyah - it is toasty here in AZ! Just a quick trip - Mom in Tucson has a project list for me to do....desert has had a lot of water so many of the cacti are in bloom. I'll try to get some pictures while I am here.

Off training for a couple of days....inflamed my Bicep tendon where it inserts near the shoulder. Could probably get away with the rowing, but decided rest is the quickest path to recovery. Certainly no weight lifting....

For those interested, my sports doctor treats this type of small injury with Traumeel, a herbal anti-inflamatory. It is injected into the muscle or inflamed area, works well, and is a good alternative to cortisone. I've found that Traumeel helps if I have tightness in muscles that massage isn't relieving........

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 5.19.10

Post by Kona2 » May 20th, 2010, 11:27 am

Welcome back, Debbie R! Our crew total is now 43!

Upon arrival in AZ, went to get "certified" at the Tucson Parks and Rec Udall Center -- so that I can use the gym here. They do not have Concept2's here - gasp - but instead a very strange rower that uses water for its resistance. Each time you pull the rowing handle, there's a tidal wave going on next to you.....whoa.
Gambol quail (the ones with the little top knots on their heads) are using a flower pot for a nest for their clutch of eggs...geckos and other lizardy things out here too. Camera will need some speed to catch these guys!

Season meters as of 19/365 = 3,638,802 m

Gasp, one stinkin' meter!? I set the distance for a HM, and stopped pulling with about 20 meters left ... making the most of the ongoing momentum. I DID notice that it stopped with 1 meter left, so I gave a little tug, and the screen cleared to "zero" ... obviously, the troll inside the monitor wasn't having any of that! Good to know ... inertia doesn't count with trolls!

Image Would be great to get an update on our Boston Marathon gal Barbara (she had her surgery on Thursday).....sending positrons her way!!

Image Still on quail watch here....egg clutch count is now eleven.....(thanks to photobucket contributors for this shot). Went up into Sabino Canyon yesterday - it's one of the areas with many, many saguaro cactus. Everywhere I looked, there were saguaros in full bloom - looking like they were holding bouquets of the saguaro bloom (state flower for Arizona).

Five half moons in the rowing universe today! And it appears that Kristine is getting a strong signal from the alien fleet..Imagelots of 3's there....!

Barbara Update

Post by just27 » May 24th, 2010, 12:08 pm

I just spoke with Barbara and she asked that I share an update with everyone, and let y’all know how much she enjoys this team, and appreciates the many well-wishes and support that’s been coming her way. She had surgery last Thursday, which entailed removing her large intestine, and she is looking forward to being discharged from the hospital either tomorrow, or Wednesday. She’s delighted that she no longer has to deal with colitis, and is now enjoying food that she’s previously had to avoid. (She was also pondering what is now taking up all the space previously used by her large intestine!)

She sounds strong, and in good spirits. Not that that’s at all surprising to everyone who’s ever read her forum posts … always positive, and the first one to give a rousing “woo hoo” to team mates.

So, major “woo hoo” back at you, and speedy recovery, Barbara!
