14 years? A detail, as it were. I'm relieved: here I was imagining you with a bandaged hand--with an IV morphine drip (which would have explained all those power rows considering your day job)--wondering just what kind of a toxin testosterone was that it could make you persevere... All becomes clear. The less politically correct version of that is "glad to hear you're not so fricking stupid!"

So now I can post the Snoopy I really wanted to put up before I thought you were in triage. Heh heh.

I'm obviously not in the Big Dog Kennel, but still, 1MM/season isn't too bad, is it?

I'm with Lisa on this. Shooting for a Mil this season. I have 387,000 left and just over 300,000 after this challenge. Looking to do a consistant 150,000 per month from here out as it is a good balance between time available and physical fitness for "me" and mixing it up with different things on alternate days.

What would we hapless idiots do without the adrenaline junkies out there to save us? Bravo! It sounds like you have a really good life, still doing the things people half your age are dreaming about doing and probably never will.

Here's another chance to show off my extreme geekiness - I NEVER listen to music, or anything else for that matter.
I may be concentrating on my speed, how tired I feel, some part of the stroke (Am I stretching and/or resting before my stroke, or [correctly] starting my stroke as soon as the last one finished? Is the handle perfectly parallel, and is the chain coming out of the epicenter of the flywheel? How smooth is my stroke? Am I pulling with my arms first, or am I letting the legs provide the early power of my stroke? Etc., etc.), whether I need to slow down a bit to complete my row, etc.
As you've probably figured out, because I go all out and push the envelope on row length & speed, I watch very closely not to get an injury, whether an overuse injury or a sudden pull or tear. The way I see it, an injury (or even overtraining) would set me back a couple months, and defeat the whole purpose of exercise - so I'd rather take an extra day of rest and/or listen to what my bod is telling me. Personally, it's hard to listen to music & my body at the same time...

Great advice! I just shot a mole in my front yard, but I'm having a hard time getting the skin off... Any ideas?

All hands on board - empty hands after playing the nickel slots! A slowish 16 of 55 members (29%) logged a meaty 292,149 total meters Thursday! We now average over 2/3 of a million meters each!
Milestones: David W blew the barn doors off of 4.4M!
Approaching milestones: David now slices towards 4.5M (-29,719m), Heather not dogging it to hit 2.5M (-27,000m), Yisroel slumping towards 2.1M (-33,726m), Jamie again narrows the gap to the Big 1M (-14,464m), Tyrone one row from 900K (-9,988m), Mark S pulling for 350K (-24,321m), Raymond rightfully aims at 250K (-17,291m), Daiva is nearing 200K (-14,600m), Tom approaches 75K (-6,059m) while Pam pursues 35K (-7,509m)!

CONLEJM wrote:Where are you all at regarding your 2012 season goals :?:
Here are some of mine:
1) Average 7,500+ meters a day so that I can be on that board (preferably in the Top 333). That would also mean that I beat my 2.66M from last season.
2) Be on Page 1 at every distance in my 50-59M HW age group.
3) Set at least 5 personal bests this year. (My guess is that it will be at the shorter distances - I'm about 10 pounds more than I was last year, but also much stronger. My pants belt tells me that not all 10 pounds were muscle - probably half & half.)
4) Average under 2:00 for all rows combined - including warm-ups, cool-downs & LSD rows.
5) Beat 6:30 for a 2K.

About a month ago, I made it to Goal #2 when I rowed a 1:31 for the 500m. About 3 weeks ago, I went from the 5K+ to the 7.5K+ board for Goal #1, and am now about a week ahead. Barely there on Goal #4.
Goal #3 will happen closer to the Feb. 12th Cincinnati regatta where I will try to "peak". I won the 50+ division last year in Cincy by 32.2s with a 6:43.7. I try to hit a "best" every Sunday of peak season after 60 hours of rest.
Goal #5 is probably a pipe dream. I figure my physical potential is about 6:28, but some weight loss would be needed (to give me an extra inch or two forward lean on each stroke, and to leave more oxygen available for my muscles). I do expect to set a personal record in the 2K, though. 6:40? 6:35?

Thanks, Cap'n! I see your name on page one of the rankings quite often  - well done! Your extreme focus certainly pays off.

I have similar goals for this season, though I am not nearly as fast as you are. My goal is to get on the 5K/day board (since I started seven months into the year, this will be tough). My other goal is to get all of my ranked rows above the 90th percentile (right now they are averaging about 87th percentile). Up until I started doing "LSDs", my aggregate time was below 2:00/500 meters, but is no longer.

After only two months of consistent rowing, I am still newbie enough that each week I'm still setting a couple new PBs, but I am starting to realize the law of diminished returns.

Thanks for the inspiration!

With the week that I have had if it was not for the Erg I would have been a basket case, With the Stress of Having my House broken into within a 30 minute time frame when I went for a quick haircut and dealing with the mess of cleaning up getting door fixed looking for receipts and tracking down costs, and then having to deal with My mother-in-law getting in an accident. I just wanted to find the nearest "crook" and just let him have it. Since I couldn't do that I put it in my rowing for my goals and for the team. With all this support I would not have been able to keep doing it..

thanks to all.... Keep up the good work.... I am sorry to say I will most likely take my normal sunday off. I know surprise surprise..... I am not one to do a lot of PB's but when I do I really like the long distances more then the shorter ones... They are always a challenge and it is always nice to be at least in the middle of the pack if not some what higher... Everyone have a great weekend, row row row..... oh one other thing I listen to a ipod when I row and depending on what music depends on how hard I row most times.. but there is one song that really works my intervals during a row.... It is "Melissa Etheridge" I run for life! when I hear the words run I change it row in my head. since I have had to deal with Cancer in my family.... But to get off the downer side of this Post... It pumps me and chears me as well... when My spin instructor plays wow.... it is like sprinting to the rainbow......My workouts during the week
consist of
1. row at the very least 2 hours
2. do crunches to offset all back work that rowing helps with and I do 5 sets of 50 in different leg postions
3. Mon/Wed evenings I do a 1 hour spin class that is taught by a Triathlete sponsored person, she has down the Hawaii Iron man and many more.... of course her strong suit is the bike....
4. Tuesdays and Thursday evenings I do at least an hour of rowing on tuesdays I work on speed and thursdays I do an easy row while wife in in step class.... and I do my crunches on at least daily if not 3 days a week depending on my time in the morning's
5 fridays I try to follow it up with a row, but a light one since yolanda sometimes trys to row... It depends on when she gets home for work.....
6. Saturdays are another long morning Yolanda loves her two classes in the morning so I put in 2 hours as well...
If I can't get at 25k in then I check the log and try to do at least my daily avg....
Sundays are my normal day's off from working out..... well we do try and get some Kayaking in around the area....

Wow I can't believe I have typed so much....... Have a great weekend....... You all have been great..... :D

blacksmith... I hope you don't mean looking like her in the suit......... Please say no..... I don't even want to think about that....... arrrrgh

as far as habits I had to change a lot....
1. No sugar drinks at all..... "use to drink pepsi like they were going out of style"
2. Eat less of what I like to eat.
3. If I eat out the limit what I eat or split it with the wife "Yolanda"
4. oh and work out like there is no tomorrow...... that is how I have dropped my weight from 270 to 193lbs I went from a 40inch waist to 34 and some pants I can do 32's went from a 2xl to a large or medium shirt again depending on they are made..... So hang in there... we both might be able to put that suit on.... .Ouch did I really say that.....
