The competition around here is awesome. I only wish I had more than one block of time per day to row. But I am trying to make that as effective as possible. I got another 10k in today. Second day in a row for the first time ever! 4 seconds slower today than yesterday, and not entirely sure I have it in me for another one tomorrow. But I am sure going to try!

Does it mean anything in the grand scheme of things? No, but it gives me something to do while other aspects of my life heal, I'm getting fitter (and slimmer--yay!) and having fun sharing the journey with like-minded souls. Nobody else understands us ergers!

Heather
Fitter AND slimmer???? I thought you were already "there"??? HMMmmmmmmm

Sure wish I had an erg in my home. I sure would show all of you!!!!!

Currently resting an injured shoulder. Wish I could have contributed more meters. Still working out on the eliptical.

Heather, no significance to Sam qoute, took it from a cartoon.

Good luck all, great rowing.

Hi guys! I took some time to read through these recent posts and I just love all the encouragement/jokes/comraderie going around! What a great team we have! How do you people row so darn much??? I'm in awe and a little envious, too! :)

Did I see that there is an 8-yr old girl posting some meters? That's stellar!! My daughter is eight- this is giving me ideas. She joined our local YMCA swim team in October, taking about 40-50 sec. to swim a 25, and now she's flying down the pool in a breezy 20 sec. I'm psyched! She only swims 2xs/week, so I'm thinking, maybe I can get her to do a little cross-training on the rower on one or two days! She likes to hop on and see how low she can get her 500m split time. This could work!

And never fear, all ye teammates- I will make my 100,000m challenge goal. I'm notorious for finishing things just in the nick of time. This is totally doable.

Have a great Tuesday!!
Cindy

Hey Cindy, sign her up (if not for the challenge-get her on the affiliation)! It's my daughter who is on the team and it's my sneaky way of getting her to get some more exercise-plus she likes it. How do I row so much-with great difficulty, of course   . Started last March and worked my way up to where I'm at now-bit by bit with a little help from my friends :) .

I once spoke to a woman I met at the gym on a rower. Turns out she is a smimmer for years. Through High School and College and still swims competitively somewhere (a nurse in her mid 40's?) Anyway, she said that rowing was the best crosstrainer for a swimmer hitting all the body parts that a swimmer needs to strenghthen. Just saying........

Big day Monday, folks!! We were at 5,763,978 meters last night, or 3,579 miles!!! Great progress!!

Image

We breezed up the western slopes of the Sierra, down into Yosemite Valley for a quick tour, then up over the Tioga pass. It's normally closed this time of year, but we got special dispensation for a crossing from the Park Service. It's really fun sliding down those snowy granite domes in the boat!

(That one's not from Panoramio, that one's mine!) :)

We spent the night with a fabulous view of Mono Lake. Today we'll be heading down through the ski town of Mammoth Lakes (where there is NO snow!), through Big Pine and Lone Pine, and then over to Death Valley. Row strong, team!!!!

Lisa, those are some beautiful pictures! Did you take those yourself?

Congrats on your lucky day, too!

Thanks, everyone! I plugged the team pretty good in the bio they wanted to put up on the weekly winners page. :)

I took the one of Yosemite Valley. We were there in February 2009 and it snowed about a foot one night. It was the most beautiful thing I will probably ever see. Yosemite is my favorite place on Earth. (That was the same trip with the hummingbirds in the snow!)
