Shhhhh... Quiet, OK, nobody wake David up, but I went into Glen Mode today and did 4 half-hour sets instead of 3, cuz I saw David had a light day, and I thought, this is my ONE BIG CHANCE to post more meters than him!! Woot!!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I think this is a 24-hour number: 16 of 55 members (29%) logged 238,641 total meters on a Sunday, no less! I’d woot if I was a Wooter!
Milestones achieved: Joseph W professed reaching 1.2M, Glenn Y yielded 600K, Glen B glided through 400K, Paul E pulled past 150K, Tom W surfed to 50K while Pam S passed 25K!
Approaching milestones: Mark going hither to 2.2M (-1,378m), Matthew closer to 1.6M (-21,502m), Lisa is thinking multiple times a day about 700K (-35,708m), Bob G thinks hitting 600K (-9,713m) is a song, Jim pulling for 500K (-17,947m), Daiva is nearing 200K (-14,600m), while Pam now moves towards 35K (-7,509m)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Today, I rowed the distance a hummingbird flies during one day of its migration: 32 k, in 8 splits of 4,000 m and never mind how much rest in between. And why? Because Mark was way way too far ahead of me at 1:30 pm my time . Actually, that was the reason I rowed at all; I had to go out this morning so I wasn't going to bother. I was starting to think these might be my last days of being a top contender anyway, because the reality is that any man with a decent level of fitness and/or a rabid determination to knock that cute little puppy off its doghouse could do it (which is, incidentally, why Captain Izzy enticed me over, as 'inspiration'--never mind the beating my ego would take when the men woke up and creamed me).
So then I started to row and quickly discovered why trainers tell us to mix it up: I had a completely different energy level, possibly from being better fed and hydrated than in the morning. And, I had all the time in the world in which to row...my sole advantage over the huge leg muscles of men. Then I posted my metres and saw that Mark had done some editing, reducing the gap between us. The answer to the question 'would she have done so much if...' will now never be known. Oh, all right: the answer is yes. I've set myself the challenge to get on the 10,000+ daily metres honor board (though I wasn't necessarily going to start today). I've already moved up 2 places since Saturday.
Does it mean anything in the grand scheme of things? No, but it gives me something to do while other aspects of my life heal, I'm getting fitter (and slimmer--yay!) and having fun sharing the journey with like-minded souls. Nobody else understands us ergers!

Hey Chris: love the Yosemite Sam on your profile, but what's the reference behind the message--or am I just behind the times with my Looney Tunes?
And Jeff: what is your picture showing? I've come up with various ideas...possibly none will be so obvious as when you reveal what it is. It looks intriguing and artistic, and it's clearly meaningful to you. Pretty please???
I'm on a roll now: Mark, do we get to see a picture of the iron hummingbird?

Kudos to Kat--with heartfelt sincerity. I remember the first time I sat on a rowing machine at the gym: I immediately understood why the two of them sat there collecting dust. It is a very hard workout--and I was a veteran of all the other cardio machines (minus the stairmaster, which I loathe: give me a mountain any day.)The Blacksmith wrote:Sweet!! She must be so proud of her Dad. Have you fashioned her a modified handle? I'm just thinking back to when I was 8; I was pretty small. If not, extra applause for her perserverance. Give her time, and... ...you'll have more competition!

Yes, I created a monster. It's not just the Tyrone Cyclone that's making me feel old. Or a 'bird in her 50s that still can get Testosterone Wars going. Or an anonymous Smith that's lowering the hammer and almost blowing us away.tyrone wrote:Great commentary and stats - all makes for great reading and occasional chuckle. What does the sea spray taste like izzy? Bet you wished you hadn't rattled the chain of the monster down under keep up the good work everyone - the second half of the challenge is where we all have to focus and keep going - especially those who have almost reached goals. Row team row. Tyrone
It's me doing a two-hour row, being way ahead of my 300K goal - and having to worry about falling out of the Top 10! There ought to be a law against that, ya know!
Can I interest you guys in meditation or yoga - they're also very good for you...

Tell Katerina that the girls who row are almost all beautiful and healthy and strong. If she keeps rowing, all the handsomest and coolest boys will come knocking at her door - only to be met by her Daddy holding a big hammer and showing them his big muscles. Hope those boys can run fast! The Blacksmith wrote:Sweet!! Kat did the same thing and moved up 4 places

That's how I got hooked on the C2 (Model B ) & the StairMaster - never had to worry about lines for those cardio machines, and they burned calories like crazy!Hummingbird wrote:...I remember the first time I sat on a rowing machine at the gym: I immediately understood why the two of them sat there collecting dust. I broke that marathon up into pieces spread throughout the day, and each piece was rowed at a comfortable pace. I literally did what we now call Glen Mode; I started out with a small goal, and it escalated.Izzzmeister wrote:Jim C - 15,049 Wow! After a Full Marathon!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hi All,
Thanks for the encouragement for Kat-it's good for her. Well, I followed a little bird this A.M. and did 32k-ouch, did it hurt. Took a bunch of rest stops, but I did it
I'll get a pic of the Iron Hummingbird for you Heather-hmm, maybe that ought to be your handle-it fits a bit better I think , especially after I tried the 32k-how do those critters do it????

Hi Heather, I think you are a champ. In any sport there are some women who excel and some men who excel, and you are definitely excelling in this sport. And it sounds like you are getting better each year you row, so keep up the great work!Hummingbird wrote: I was starting to think these might be my last days of being a top contender anyway, because the reality is that any man with a decent level of fitness and/or a rabid determination to knock that cute little puppy off its doghouse could do it
And remember, no matter how great Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were, they were both easily struck out in 1931 by Virne Beatrice "Jackie" Mitchell, a 17 year-old girl whom almost became the first female major league baseball player. Ruth on four pitches, Gehrig on three!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Last days as a top contender??? I highly doubt it-you have no idea of how hard I have had to work to get ahead of you-at least for this month. Then I look at your stats in the honor board-who's chasing who here?? It appears to me that I am NOT the lead dog (subtle Snoopy ref ). It's your power of example that is keeping me/us going (among others also). Maybe the definition of "top contender" needs to be checked, and if it is checked, there might be a pic of a little feathered creature next to it .
Cheers,
Mark
