As of last night, we were at 1,339,857k, or 832 miles!! Excellent progress, team!! That puts us just outside of Cleveland, in Madison, OH.

Off the starboard side, there is an excellent view of Lake Erie. Unfortuately, it still looks cold!!

Yes, that is a real picture! http://benedante.blogspot.com/2010/12/i ... house.html

Nice job on the map! As for the ice-don't forget the Great Lakes are some dangerous waters-remember the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (and many, many more). I've paddled up there and it gets rough :)

Okay, so maybe I'm in the presumed-to-be dumb set at the back of the boat, the ones who are fooling around too much to pay attention to the lesson....but I could have sworn I did the right thing in uploading the image.

So then I re-read "the lesson" (by Lisa), and tried editing the image to 'place inline', but it went to the top of the message, putting it out of context. So, how do you place the attachment 'inline' where you want it, the way some of you do?

Thanks,
Heather
So, for images as attachments, the functionality seems to be pretty crude, and you don't get a lot of control over the look of the results. Here's a message with two attachments. Here's one I put "inline", which adds some tags ( [ attachment=1 ]RowIcon.gif[ /attachment ] ) in the message, at the current cursor location.
RowIcon.gif

Then I added another attachment but didnt place it inline. It just gets added at the end by the forum software package. In that case, you get the white box with the Attachments header surrounding your image.

If it's bigger than a certain size, though, I think you get a scrollable area, regardless if it's inline or at the bottom.

So you can put the images inline by placing your cursor where you want it BEFORE clicking "Place inline", or move the tags in the editor afterwards to where you want them.

I don't use attachments for my images, though. Lots of the just-for-fun images are things I google for, then just link to whereever they live on the Web. Custom stuff (maps, coxswain with a cake, etc.) I photoshop, save as JPGs, and upload to flickr and link to them there.

Love the pic, Smitty!! (Trees! Real trees! And water!! Sigh. It may be nice and warm here, but we don't have that stuff.)

For me, the motivation is stress relief and weight control. Like Jim, I have a sedentary occupation (software engineer, maybe retired, maybe not), and went to pot over time. I'm also an emotional eater and in recovery from eating disorders (sorry if TMI). So for me, maintenance and control is key.

The biggest factors I've found in success are (1) metrics and (2) community involvement. Metrics -- logging food and exercise, tracking progress or even just minutes/miles rowed/run, etc. Community -- involvement on forums, getting and giving support and encouragement to and from others. It's incredibly powerful!

I got my rower a while after I started running and was experiencing knee issues. After some research, I decided the rower would be great full-body cardio with minimal impact. But it's boring as hell (to me!), so I knew that if I didn't join a team, it would simply collect dust. The challenges and being active helping out on the team keep me rowing, pure and simple.

The knees are good now (switched to trail running and taking Glucosamine). Now I'm working on the feet. :)

Heather -- 5'6" and 130 is where I am. Surely you don't have much ice cream weight to drop!

So two at 5'6", 130 lb ??? Very nice!

I've already stated exercise is my medicine. At 6'2" and 210-215lbs most of my last 25 or so years, I never considered myself heavy nor terribly out of shape. Started adding more protein in my meals and started losing weight before I started exercising. (or exercising THIS TIME) Started exercising again when I got laid off (THIS TIME) because I didn't want to go soft in the downtime. Weight continued to drop with the exercising and went far below in weight than I ever expected bur feel great. Did great through Thanksgiving but the Christmas week and a half took a toll. I continued exercising everyday and alternating rowing after the Holiday Challenge. I can affirm that the key to good health and body weight is both exercise AND diet. I pigged out on desserts but my glucose numbers stayed in line which caused me to cheat even more. It's funny how you lose weight. A little all around/ a little at a time with the belly fat to be the last to go. Got down to 194 (without trying) and feel great and swore I'd never go past 195 again. Well, it's funny how you gain weight. FAST and ALL and the belly. 6 new pounds just hanging in one spot and giggling. YUCK! all while STILL exercising. (Let this be a lesson for all of us!)

Anyway, I love rowing. Wish I had one in my house. Prefer alternating days with other exercises and no desire to be a Big Dog.

This. I'm an actuary, and the numbers are mesmerizing to me; the online rankings are a major motivation to me. I love to try and improve my standing for each of the distance/times. And the community gives both competitive and supportive inspiration.

Since everyone else is disclosing, I'm 6'4" and got up to 233lbs, but I'm down to ~217lbs now and would like to drop another 7 to 10 lbs.

OK, I'm in: 6' 5", weight used to be pegged at 185, immovable regardless of diet. Peaked up to 212 and I got upset enough to go buy the C2. After one month (and a couple of days) I've dropped down to 205, aiming for 195. The only problem is that I'm gasping for air as the big dogs keep rowing around me in circles!

On another note (how to include pictures), I just do it like this:

In fact, I have it hanging on the wall next to my "Board of Education" and "Bat Out Of Hell", where all the scurvy knaves who lazily want a break after a 12-hour shift can see them - and realize what kind of a break they can expect! (Gotta go now, to continue my search for a whip with 12 tails.)
