Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I want to give a big welcome shout-out to new TimBukTOO member Bill Lawrence, who has joined our year-round affiliation. He brings with him a whopping 791k for the season, and has over 15MM lifetime meters. Welcome, Bill!!! Awesome numbers!!
Won't you please consider joining us for the Virtual Team Challenge, as well? We're Team TimBukTWO for that. Sure could use your meters to help us along the road to warmer climes...

Welcome Aboard Bill!! And David W-600,000 goal Yowza! Up to 104,000 now-lucky I didn't capsize in the wake as you blew past me. As far as the big dog thing, most days I feel like a Chihuahua (the pocket book kind) , but thanks for the ego boost
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I am amazed at some of the numbers you folks are rowing; David and Mark and Heather just to name a few. You people are an inspiration to me to press on further than I ordinarily would. Since I have recently started participating in these challenges, and especially this month after joining this team, my rowing scores have been improving very much. And the better I do, the more I want to row. So thank you very much; you are helping me even though you may not be aware of it. Thanks too for all of the great reporting from the captain(s).

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hay all-stupid question-How do I get a picture in the forum here?? I click on img then what?? Not exactly computer literate here. Thanks.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
According to the FAQs:
Can I post images?
Yes, images can be shown in your posts. If the administrator has allowed attachments, you may be able to upload the image to the board. Otherwise, you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor images stored behind authentication mechanisms, e.g. hotmail or yahoo mailboxes, password protected sites, etc. To display the image use the BBCode [img] tag.
I hope this helps,
Jim C.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
So, there's a couple of ways, depending on where your picture is. If it is on the Interwebs at large (say on flickr or something), then using that "Img" button will work. What goes between the [ img ] and [ /img ] tags is the full URL of the picture, say "http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7005/6622 ... 50a8_b.jpg".The Blacksmith wrote:Hay all-stupid question-How do I get a picture in the forum here?? If it's on your computer, you can add it as an attachment. If you look below the message editing area, below the Save Draft, Preview, and Submit buttons, you'll see "Options" and "Upload attachment" Click Upload attachment, then browse to the file on your computer, and click "Add the file". After it's uploaded, you'll see an Uploaded Attachments section, again below the message edit area. Click "Place Inline" to make it appear in your post.
HTH!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Yeah, it feels good while it lasts, doesn't it? I had a few glorious hours of seeing my name at the top during days 1-3, but I knew I was beat this morning when I saw the stats; and with a rest day tomorrow, I doubt I'll be #1 again this challenge. Sigh. This motivational thing can cut two ways, because even though I tell myself that THAT was never my goal, the imp in me has been devilishly gleeful at the chance to nip at the heels of THE big dog.The Blacksmith wrote:
Just one more thing-I'm in first place!!
But give me a break: you, a Chihauhau? You're a big brawnie blacksmith; I'm a 5'6", 130 lb pipsqueak! Making it all the more flattering to be considered a big dog in the first place, so merci beaucoup for the accolade!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Well, that image didn't turn out like I intended!
Okay, so maybe I'm in the presumed-to-be dumb set at the back of the boat, the ones who are fooling around too much to pay attention to the lesson....but I could have sworn I did the right thing in uploading the image.
So then I re-read "the lesson" (by Lisa), and tried editing the image to 'place inline', but it went to the top of the message, putting it out of context. So, how do you place the attachment 'inline' where you want it, the way some of you do?
Thanks,
Heather

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Boy-who knew that joining and on-line challenge that makes me sweat and sore could be so much fun ! As for the big dog thing-I think it's all in how I look at it. So maybe I'll switch from the chihauhua to be like my own dog. Yellow lab. Big dumb blockhead-happy as hell-loves to eat
I also wanted to put in a pic of why I got my erg to begin with. I'm a bit lighter now-20lbs or so (and stronger gotta love that ). That's my daughter in the bow. The boat is a Wine-Glass Wherry. it's a kit boat by Pygmy boats. 100lbs or so. I'm building a kayak of theirs now also.
I get a lot out of the team thing. Lots of motivation chasing in the wake of those stronger rowers. I also get a lot of motivation trying to stay ahead of those behind me (one in particular being the Cap'n- methinks he's got a cat'o nine hidden in the boat)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hi all,
I was a bit shy of 2 million for the affiliation year (22,625 to put a # to it) so I did it this A.M. As I was struggling along, I was wondering why the hell am I getting up 2 hours early before a long day to do this. So I thought I would write some of my motivations down. They're in no particular order.
1) stay fit for my kids. My daughter is 8 and loves when I carry her to bed-she's 8 and weighs 80lbs. I want to do it as long as I can-bad back and all.
2) stay one step ahead of the back surgeon
3) Do the Blackburn Challenge and finish it this coming summer.
4)lost 20 lbs and gained a bunch of muscle-I have visible abs-not bad for 46
5) stay stronger than my 18 year old son. It's the father/son/testosterone thing-but so what-it works for me.
6) The team-I'm actually enjoying this-who knew??
7)staying ahead of those behind me and catching up to those ahead of me. Loved Heathers analogy of nipping at the heels.
Anybody got any to share??????

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I'm a 45-yr old father of four (18M, 16M, 11F, 8M) and I am on the same page as you in terms of maintaining my health and strength for my family. I want to be bigger than all of my daughter's boyfriends when she enters the dating world...
Being a desk-jockey, I let myself go a bit as I approached 40, and last year my company required us all to get a cholesterol check. Well, my cholesterol was quite high. As an alternative to taking drugs, I changed my diet and began rowing and my cholesterol is down 100 points and back to recommended levels. I like that I am losing weight and getting stronger.
I'll never get to the top of the list in this competition, but my implicit goal is to get in the top 10 for the month. I get there every morning after I log my rowing for the day, but as others log theirs throughout the day I drop down several notches. This encourages me to eke out a few more minutes of rowing beyond what I otherwise would.
I started rowing halfway through the 2012 season, but I would like to log 1 million meters before it's over.
