Well it was under my butt, but C2 sent me this cushy seat pad so it's all good now. The actual fire, though, was the fact that Thursday was my last chance for any serious ergasms since the vacationing wife and son return today. 150k was the stretch goal (and maybe a bit overzealous but what the heck). Now it's time to lay off for a couple of days before the team captain actually shows up on my doorstep to whack some sense into this new rower!

I will try for 200k but it may be tough... We're in the process of demoing an old gazebo that had seen one too many earthquakes and windstorms and was falling down, and I really want to get it done by Sunday when we have company coming... A pin, huh? Would be a nice token!!

I haven't researched the charities but chose the Red Cross as I give to them frequently and let them stick a needle in my arm several times a year... They seem fairly responsible...

Joking aside, it's great that you have people around you who actually understand the heroic effort you put in. People who don't row just don't know what it takes!

And don't forget the colour certificate you can print out: your name in bold letters heralding your accomplishment. It's worth a few smiles, and every motivation helps.

I chose the Vermont Disaster Relief fund. The floods are very difficult to come back from. There is some towns in the upper Catskills that are very hard hit (20 miles from my home)-I helped with the cleanup effort-shoveled 4" of mud from houses etc-talk about heart wrenching problems. People lost everything but their lives-houses ,cars, etc. I read that there is still approximately 1,000 or so people in the hills near here who are homeless ( houses wiped out)and living with friends/relatives. . There is not a lot of work up in the mountains, and flood insurance and FEMA don't give enough to rebuild. I imagine the Vermonters are in the same situation by the pictures I have seen. The water just came tearing down off the peaks and wiped a lot away. So, we should all be happy that we can help in some way, and be grateful for all we have. Merry Christmas to all, and enjoy the Holidays whichever ones you celebrate.

I also chose the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund. I was under the impression that all 3 are meant to help Vermont but I've read other things wrong in this Challenge so....................

I know that the Red Cross does a lot of good but I believe that donations go into a general fund with them and they distrubute as they feel. I think there was some flak a few years ago when there were donations flooding in for a particular cause (tsunami maybe) and people were getting upset when they found out that a lot of the donations were going for other things.

I switched from the Red Cross to the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund early on in the challenge when Mark first mentioned what he saw going on first hand; that is the closest I've ever been to that scale of a disaster, making it all just a bit more urgent and real. Imagine the kind of Christmas some of them will be having. Heart breaking, indeed.

All the best to one and all,
Heather

Yeah... Not going to happen. I have made the discovery that several hours of using a reciprocating saw on 4x8 beams is not conducive to subsequent rowing. Even typing hurts!

173k is good -- much better than I did last year.

Good to have eyes on the scene, and with Mark as someone who sees first-hand what organizations are doing the most good there, I will change my selection as well. I just thought they all should be worthy and doing direct good there since C2 selected them, and I have had experience with the ARC.

The ARC is a good one too. They provide much needed help all over. They were here in the Catskills when Irene came through and did a lot of good. I think that C2 chose well with the charities they have listed-the only hard part was putting in the time on the rower to get the dough to pass on to whomever you choose :)

Made it over the 200,000 hump today. Looking forward to taking a little break on the erg. I'm thinking 150,000 per month would be a good goal for me and give me time to do some other exercises to mix it up a bit.

583,878m Lifetime
488,878m this season

I should be able to make a million for the season. I must say that I have been on and off quite a bit over the years with a good amount of meters never logged. I must say that being part of a Team Challenge has helped a lot with staying motivated and putting in the extra meters. Between that and my newly found "enthusiasm" (???) for exercising, I expect to be continuing adding meters around here for a while to come.

Merry Christmas to all!
