I've requested that Santa bring me a new tent this year. Back in August when camped on a river, my old Eureka Timberline 4 got hit hard by thunderstorm winds that funneled along the river channel and that resulted in the rain fly being torn to shreds. That style tent never handled high winds well. So I've been thinking about a new tent for a couple months and have pretty much decided on the Canadian version of the Eureka Mountain Pass 3XTC, one that can handle high winds and that has a complete to ground level rain fly (only available on the Canadian version of this tent). And this new tent looks like an alien spaceship. So along with my space travels rowing to the moon with you luna-tics, I should be safe and considered "one of them".Kona2 wrote:Keep an eye on the skies when camping....you might get beamed up!

But "Santa" and I have to figure out a 3 day pass up to Thunder Bay in the next month to go shopping for it.

Yes, still warm here. This is back at the lake on Saturday, the day after the moonlight paddle. AJ lost his glasses overboard on Friday night and we mounted a salvage mission the next morning. (Amazingly, we found them.)
Doesn't have quite the same I-know-what-I'm-doing look as pictures of Baz in his kayak or Darryl in his canoe!

Okay, "the rest of the story," Jan! AJ had absolutely no plans to go kayaking on Friday night (romantic or not), but my friend bailed and I whined all through dinner about not wanting to "alone" ... so he somewhat graciously volunteered to go with. Toward the end of the evening, a tandem boat in the group accidentally rammed into him, and he went upside down into the lake. A new skill learned, in getting back into a kayak from the water! Quite dramatic. We half-heartedly agreed to go back out the next day and look for his glasses in the daylight ... and I still can't believe that we went right to them. (I have Croakies for my sunglasses, but never thought about putting them on his glasses at night.)Kona2 wrote:Wait...wait...wait....not so fast that we blow by this statement.....! Chris - Very interesting "And now, the rest of the story". Glad you guys found AJ's glasses, and like you are already doing, I highly recommend using croakies or chums whenever on the water, especially if someone in your group is playing bumper boats. I hope AJ's "Out of Boat Experience" doesn't dampen spirits to get back on the water and paddle more. If you paddle with those inattentive tandem boat drivers again, sneak up behind them and give them a PIT maneuver when they least expect it..... just to get their attention.

PIT maneuvers
I don't know what a PIT maneuver might be, but I'd definitely try to "get their attention" another time! They were a group of six sweet little giggly 20-year olds (sorry, Kiba) with miner lights on their heads (deer in the headlights every time they looked your way) ... just great for enjoying the quiet moonlight.DuluthMoose wrote: If you paddle with those inattentive tandem boat drivers again, sneak up behind them and give them a PIT maneuver when they least expect it..... just to get their attention.

Had a chuckle about the glasses (not you loosing them!), but when I lived in Papua New Guinea I lost about 4 pairs of sunnies ( and 400 dollars) on a reef we paddled to before I spent a dollar for a strap to keep them on.. how dumb was that!
On another note... Thomas, Tommy Tomato (my 9 year old) has got a log book now and has done all of 4 minutes of rowing (its a start) and he wants to help row to the moon... He's always asking about how the team is going....but I couldn't see the LUNATICS in the team drop down menu?????? Any thoughts.. actually he is always on the rower, just hasn't logged anything, mind you usually for a few minutes at a time only..
Cheers BBB

Hooyah! Sign Thomas up! We always want more astro-rowers! I believe I have fixed the issue of the team name not appearing on the drop down menu. I know it's hard to believe, but the virtual January challenge teams are already into recruitment. I signed the team up for the challenge - and then signed myself up for the challenge! Everyone who wishes to participate in the January virtual challenge must indicate intent to do so on the team page in your logbook. Even if someone wants to just sign on to the team, I guess you have to indicate affiliation through a challenge team. So. We're all set!BAZzy wrote: On another note... I will update the chart of our moon progress, too.
