Honor Board

Bwaa-aaa-aa (evil laugh)....something wicked this way comes says Dan!

Dan
Wild Bill
Will S

Note: I kept seeing the "2009 Honor Board posting soon" signage, and didn't look at the challenge heading on my logbook! Once there, I could see the 44 individuals who are already on the honor board - including three Luna-Tics crew!

The leader logged 354,000 meters. At a 2K pace of 7:00 it would take about 20 hours to coomlete this distance. Plus when I checked his team profile his total meters rowed this year was 354,000. Therefore, I'm calling BS on this guy. Since he is from Australia maybe Baz and Dave H could go have a chat with him.

There are a few folks who are less than honorable when it comes to reporting metres on the honor board ...

There's one 64 year old fellow who says he just started Erging in March this year to lose weight and rehab from an auto accident, but has already logged over 8 million metres and has averaged over 44,000 metres/day for this season.

Really?

It's possible, I suppose ... but highly unlikely.

Just like the guy who now leads the Skeleton Crew Honor Board - possible, I suppose ... but highly unlikely.

It would be frustrating and de-motivating if I let these folks get to me, so I just remember that I'm in it for me and the Luna-Tics and try to ignore those who are obviously falsely reporting their accomplishments.

Sorry for the rant - just wanted to share Doc's concern

Dan - first on the board for our crew
Wild Bill - whoa...a goal of 250,000....five red giants?
Well ... five Red Giants would get the job done in only five days, but since it's a seven day challenge, I was aiming for an average of about 35,000 metres/day.

My Red Giant on the first day of the challenge was just an attempt to get a little ahead of the game.

But who knows? Keep your eyes on the heavens - there may be more Red Giants in our path as we go forward this week :D

Last year I proposed to Concept2 that the top 100 finishers in every challenge either electronically enter meters for proof or have their meters from every rowing session reviewed and verified by an unbiased individual (trainer, fitness center personnel, etc) and submitted to Concept2 for verification. I also believe there are less than honorable meters entered in challenges, especially ones rowed after the challenge is over for the 3 days allowed to finish entering meters. I think the temptation to predate meters rowed after the fact for those 3 days is too great for some. Concept2 wasn't interested stating it would be too restrictive for many rowers. I still think its the fair thing to do when there is so much honorable rowing effort going in to rank among the best during challenges. Just a check off box for "electonically entered meters YES or NO" would go a long way toward solving a real or perceived problem.

K2 was asking...."Surf ski?! I thought it was some kind of epic kayak... "

Old habits die hard....I still think of it as a Surf Ski...Surf Lifesaving Clubs in Australia race on similar boats....however, with many hybrids around today they are increasingly referred to as kayaks....

It is long, measuring in at just on 6.5 metres (21 feet)..

Must say..it is a great boat, even if it is facing the wrong way to a rowing boat (or is that the other way round), but an absolute delight to paddle....fast on flat water, and designed to race ocean swells.

For those who have paddled narrow boats....this has great secondary stability...........so little energy wasted trying to stay upright (and dry)..

Post by big maq » October 26th, 2009, 8:35 pm

Thanks for all the encouragement. I know I wouldn't still be rowing if it wasn't for all you guys. I can't tell you how much I've benefited from erging. I'm much more flexible, more stamina, stronger. and lighter. Thanks again guys and gals.

TO THE MOON!!!!!!!

Geological samples

Post by Kona2 » October 27th, 2009, 9:19 pm

Meanwhile, in her secret mountain laboratory, Kiba is perfecting her rock sampling techniques for our future moon landing......initially believing she had enrolled in a rock band music survey course, she discovered she possessed a true aptitude for geology....the cupcakes are more like a sideline....but we're sure the pizzas are mainstream!

no power last night, between 6pm and 9pm - high winds. Started rowing while it was still light enough to see. Set the monitor for 7K, forgot that I would not know when I reached 7K - so would stop, turn on the flashlight every 2 songs on my IPOD. Then when I got close (300 m to go), I counted strokes - rowing in the dark was interesting experience. Obviously could not post meters until today.

15 dancing skeletons

Post by Kona2 » October 28th, 2009, 7:12 pm

Sounds like you had a Halloweenesque experience Gina....rowing in the dark...no power....yikes. I agree with Dan - you're a trooper! You need a headlamp (I must have been a miner in a previous life)!

Skeleton crew update: 15 skeleton crew members on board, and many more working towards that goal !
