[quote="Kona2"]And your feet were probably still strapped in.......I can relate to this! When I first went to clip in pedals on the bike, I "forgot" that I was clipped in and leaned the bike towards the clipped in side - at the start line of the Elephant Rock bike ride. I took out two other bikes, and was really embarrassed....and, of course, you can't get your feet loose right away....

yes...luckily one of the ladies on a treadmill close by saw what happened and unstrapped me :-) and of course i landed on the elbow that i injured before...i am icing it....i am sooooo klutsy......

Oh yes. I remember in the '80s going from rat traps to LOOKs. Very painful learning curve! For a while it was almost safer to roll through red lights than come to a stop.

sick leave - bummer

Post by acrewer » October 6th, 2009, 2:47 am

I was doing so well getting back to regular workouts, after vacation and the High Holidays and school starting...now my kids brought me home a nice head cold  . I hope I'll feel up to getting back on the erg soon.

NOW you know why we used Duct Tape while racing. In a boat you don't sit on the drive, there is often air between you and the seat; basically you hang all your weight on your oar.

Barb,

I heard confession is good for the soul. So here goes. This week-end while watching the Notre Dame game I tried to avoid a QB sack and nearly fell off the erg. But, that's not all, it happened 2 more on passes into the end zone.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, you are in some very good company. Kiba, Jan and I, probably more funny stories out there if they would just fess up.

Sorry....was just empathizing with Kona about switching to "clip in" pedals. We used to call regular pedals rat traps. I think because of the "teeth" on the edges. LOOK pedals were my first clip-in pedals, and I fell over many times as I forgot to unclip my shoe before I came to a stop.

So, am I to believe that the advantages of clipping your feet into little tooth-like traps outweigh the problems of having your feet slip off the pedals? I'm just asking because I row with my (bare) feet on, not in, the straps ... and apparently don't generate enough effort to make my feet (or butt!) rise off the erg.

All things to ponder ...

clipless pedals

Post by Kona2 » October 6th, 2009, 7:20 pm

The advantage of having either the rat trap or the clip ins would be that you carry forward the energy on the up pedal that you have generated on the down pedal....I think.

About those clip-on pedals, I am too afraid to try. Keith converted over last year, and paid the price once so far. We were all behind him to watch the unfortunate show. :(

Kona2 - I bet there's a mathamatical formula that relates that statement to the number of shopping days left until the Holidays. But I'm not one of those folks that tries to stay ahead of impending frenzy. I'm still trying to work in a canoe outting or 2 yet before freeze-up. And baseball is still alive and well in the Northland. Go Twins! After baseball is done and freeze-up, well then I'll join you in expressing Aaaack!!!!!
