Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey Izz, hope you feel better today!! Hope your computer behaves better today as well.
I got my gloves Monday, used them yesterday. I think I like them. They're not what I had imagined, somehow. I should finish the challenge today. Seems like a lot of work just for $2!!
We're in the midst of a really nasty storm here. I wish my erg floated. I might need it!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Lisa,
I'm breaking up these posts, so that I don't end up throwing this [expletive deleted] computer out the window.
Back in the Good Old Days (Translation: A fictional time we created by remembering the good stuff while forgetting the bad), all things that could have gone right, would - and at the best possible time. Then, some guy named Murphy passed a law, and ruined all that!
So now, when I save my post before hitting Submit, the message posts correctly. When I forget to save it first, I get a "Diagnose Connection Problems" message. I hope that some guy at Microsoft's Seattle HQ is getting a good laugh out of it, at least!
In a previous post, you used the C-word. Right now, serving as duct tape between two captains, it is taking me about 3 hours daily. Admittedly, there's more going on now than usual - I've had to do things to stabilize the team, get everything necessary to keep stats, keep the regular stats, keep the Holiday Challenge stats, prepare for the January VTC, etc. I'm more than willing to share the grie... um, glory, of Captaining!
Lisa, I don't see it as "all that work for $2." I see it as a way of improving your fitness with the added incentive of helping others, I see it as helping - with thousands of other rowers - raise close to $30,000. I also happen to like these water charities - you could literally be giving LIFE to thousands of people for hundreds of years for a small investment.
P.S. I'll be singing "It never rains in Souther California" today... lol

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Dear TimbukTOOians,
Two fast things:
1) Anybody that wants to make our page more festive is welcome to. No objection here. Except for Dennis, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, there hasn't been much Holiday Cheer here. No, it's not part of my religious tradition and besides, my Interior Decorating years are behind me, so I won't be doing the decorating, but please feel free to add seasonal images!
2) Until now, I have been listing the meters rowed from most to least. This seems to have been positive for many, who seem to have started rowing more meters. But, I'm afraid that others may not be doing their 2-3K rows, or waiting until they have a few lined up to add them to their logbook.
So, feedback please: What do you recommend? Most-to-least, least-to-most, mix it up, do it alphabetically, or some other idea? Please let me know!
You a low-volume rower? That's okay. We understand that many people are busy, they do other forms of exercise, etc. So keep posting, every meters helps you - and us!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Yes, the good old days.... Brought to you by selective brain cell death.
I don't begrudge doing work for charitable causes -- quite the contrary. I have so many charities to keep track of that I keep a spreadsheet. I make blankets for kids for Project Linus and will be starting scarves and cool-ties for the military come January.
I merely lament that it is SOOOO much easier to click a PayPal button and ship off $50 to a cause than to row for hours for a couple bucks. I applaud C2 for both motivating us to row and for supporting good causes simultaneously. The numbers really do add up and it's a great thing -- the power of the masses. But -- just for me, mind you -- the little bit I'm contributing doesn't motivate me very much to row more. I just never did the math and got a little despondent by seeing the number in your post.
And yes, they are very good causes.

Iz and Lisa ...I really appreciate all that you are doing....the format is fast and colorful and keeps interest. I'm amazed at the dedication of all the individuals who row and put out all these meters.....honestly I've never been this tired and sore in the last 10 years....You All want to make a person do their best...It really helps motivate.

Hey, I'm doing bupkis!
Izz, how about just alpha by first name? Cool by me.
What can we do to streamline the job? What takes the most time? Can we apply the principles of distributed processing and divide up the work?

VTC2011? TimbukTWO At Twenty-Four, Growing Steadily!
Yes, TimbukTOOians will participate in January's Virtual Team Challenge, as we have yearly! We have put up a new team called "TimbukTWO, Pat's", and the Captain's wheel will be held by my inexperienced, trembling but calloused hands, awaiting Pat's steady gloved hand! (Okay, she told me her gloved hand is on hiatus for a while...!)
So, please go to your Teams Page, pick us as your Virtual Team, & separately (yeah, that's how it works) sign up for the VTC!
Welcome, Don Roche & Dave Hall! Hey, can I interest you guys in a year-round team?
(Raymond & Don, thanks for signing up for the Team, BUT... you still need to join us specifically for the VTC!)

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Izzie,
Congratulations on completing a marathon.
I fell short of hitting 200K during this challenge- my vacation, combined with poor planning did me in.
I am slowly increasing the length of my rows- hope to do a half m sometime in Jan.
My immediate goal is still a sub 8 2K- but I have to train for that- my threshold for pain is not what it used to be, and training at that distance, essentially a long sprint, really hurts.
Thank you for taking on the mantle of leadership- time is a scarce commodity for most of us- I appreciate what you are doing.
Gary
