Re: Forum Flyers
Hi Jack,
I'm in Atlantic City and getting to erg a 2K late tomorrow morning, 11:50 AM.
I stand a better-than-average chance of winning my age group (75-79 lwt) due to the fact that I'm the only one entered. This is a first for me in a major race. I do have to actually start and finish the race; something that an infamous banned forum poster can't seem to accomplish.

Yes, the Forum has been very quiet over January - I even had to check the January Team challenge page to make sure there was still life in the Team!!jackarabit wrote: ↑February 4th, 2023, 12:55 amVery quiet in here. Like a hotel pool at 5AM. You smell the chlorine, hear the filter, your footsteps echo. Where is everyone?
I was off work the first week in January so had a decent start to that challenge. Returning to work meant not as much time available every morning - so slowed down a bit - but still managed to just get over that 100 k mark (along with you, Jack). Good to see Marc V. at 100 k as well. (Marc, hoping everything is okay with you as I see Linda was way ahead of you - and you are normally neck and neck.)
Anyway, I just posted my first attempt at the February CTC. Might try again later in the month. I started off too slow for the 3:00 piece. Wanted to make sure I had enough left for the next intervals - and it turned out that I had lots left!!
The polar vortex was supposed to hit us early this week - but didn't really set in (It only went down to -20C on Monday). And, now it has really warmed up with +10C yesterday and predicated for today!! Might even be able to get out for a bike ride soon.
Hope all are doing well,
Anna Rae

Watching USROwing’s video feed as I post. Off air now. Not certain if there is replay opportunity? Back live at 8am ET tomorrow for all you fans. Video quality is decent; tight shots that stick with the 3 or 4 big guns per heat and/or age group. Interviews with winners.Yankeerunner wrote: ↑February 4th, 2023, 1:01 pmHi Jack,

Rick, I’ll try to spot you in the collapsed ‘still kickin’ age groups run. I guess your race is going to be Rick in one seat against no Rich in the other but still fun to see where you place against the youngins in 70-74 and even 65-69lwts.

Anna Rae sez:
Hey Anna Rae, I am frequently guilty of warming up during the first active period of an interval workout—sometimes intentionally. Try more warmup before entering the house of pain. We can’t always call our shot in terms of an optimal first interval target pace that leaves just barely enuf go juice to see the job thru at an optimized average pace. But we can trick the inner chimp with those feel good/no worries endorphins. Rearing to go is the antidote to fearing to go.. . . I just posted my first attempt at the February CTC. Might try again later in the month. I started off too slow for the 3:00 piece. Wanted to make sure I had enough left for the next intervals - and it turned out that I had lots left!!

My race is supposed to go off at 11:50 AM EST. Looks like the 14 oldest male entrants all in the same heat. Since they range from Andrew Benko in the 55-59 Hwt to a guy in the 80-84 age group there will be a long wait from Andrew's finish to the last of us.
And if you were wondering, I can still make lightweight while still dressed in my heavy winter coat and carrying a fully packed gym bag.

Re: Forum Flyers
yes it has been quiet here Jack.
Here in Sydney we are in the middle of summer and super busy. Training interrupted by covering for staff on leave and all the other stuff that happens at this time of the year but still making good rehab progress after the knee surgery. The still to be replaced one is now weaker than the other. Probably to be done in April. Fitness is returning slowly.
Terry and I did the challenge this morning at a reasonable pace around @1:56 so boat one is afloat.
It is interesting to note that for we are actually doing pretty well again this year overall and continuing to punch above our weight. I think placed 7th overall.
very best to all

I’m thinking sooner the better on the second knee, Lindsay. Jean’s observation about her TKR was that rehab on the first didn’t really “take” until the second was far enuf along to share the chores.lindsayh wrote: ↑February 4th, 2023, 9:35 pmyes it has been quiet here Jack.

Re: Forum Flyers
yes thanks Jack the sooner the better although to be fair my first one has gone pretty well and I am much better already - back at full time work about 8 weeks post op and I'm much more comfortable. April is my first opportunity to grab a month away from work and my primary carer's commitment to the Aus Dragon Boat championships. I'm prehabbing hard of course to help make things smoother.jackarabit wrote: ↑February 5th, 2023, 11:46 amI’m thinking sooner the better on the second knee, Lindsay. OK, so, I've entered the WorldRowing Indoor Championships in Canada on the 25th.
I noticed that Elizabeth is ranked 3rd in the Versa Challenge, and that we both race on the 25th. Although I'm sure it will be crowded, I hope we can get to meet in person. Go Elizabeth!

Hi Forum Flyers!
I wanted to let you know that I've grown close to some members of the SPU team, and asked them to join their team for future CTCs. I rowed on their behalf for February. I really appreciate my time with you - you're a great group, and I wish you the best of luck in the future. I also hope to meet a bunch of you one day - and it looks like I have the opportunity to meet YankeeRunner in just over a week here. Hopefully we'll be able to find each other. I'll also be at the CRASH-Bs, if anyone else will be there.
Also - CONGRATS Rick! What an awesome performance!

Busy IR comp schedule you have there, Elizabeth!
Enjoy your new ctc team. The Kiwis remember a thing or two about small islands, big water, and the stars. You should be a good fit.

Elizabeth - I will definitely miss you helping to get our Boat 1 near the top in the CTC. Best of luck to you (and Yankeerunner) next weekend!
With Elizabeth gone, that leaves me in Boat 1 (being the only lady to have posted a score for the Flyers). I have to say I really don't like the pressure, but it gave me more to reason to try that piece again today. Improved my score by 68 m, which was almost (not quite) enough to move our boat up one more place - another 2 m would have done it. My downfall was the second interval (the 2.5 minute one). I just wasn't recovered enough form the 3' piece to hold that same pace for the 2.5'. Managed to re-coup for the last three.
We have two more boats waiting for a female rower (Linda, Sheena, Sabrina - feel free to bump me down a boat or two!!!)
