Did all 4 distances for the August CTC today as 4/3/2/1 with plenty of gap between them - just really wanted to get a score on the board.
- Did the 400 at 135 DF, only managed a disappointing 1:33.2 @ 35spm (1:34.5/1:32.5/1:32.5/1:33.5) with a LP of 1:30
- Upped the DF to 145 for the 300, and was pretty pleased with a 1:31.0 @ 38spm (1:31.5/1:29.5/1:32) - LP of 1:29 which is the first time I'd ever gone below 1:30 and managed it for a few strokes
- Upped the DF again for the 200 - to 159, got 1:31.0 @ 38spm again, (1:31.5/1:30.0) - new best ever LP of 1:28!
- So with the first split of the 300 and 200 both being 18.3 seconds, I was really hoping to get under that for the 100. Just upped the DF a bit more to 166, got another new LP PR of 1:27, and had the average pace below 1:30 until the last stroke - ended up with 1:30.0 @ 40spm (so 18.0 seconds)
So the changes of DF were purely experimenting due to a lack of experience at maximal efforts at these distances - was certainly too low for the 400 - and despite taking decent breaks there was some fatigue in the 200 and 100 - so on the whole ended up happy with this - in particular to get a LP of 1:27 which is 3" better than I've ever seen before - and left me feeling less bad about my strength than I had after the 400!
1:27.0 is obviously 18" under the 2k pace I need to break 7' - not resting on my laurels here and certainly intending to improve strength/peak power in the future - but nice to get through the 1:30 barrier with a bit of room to spare.

Speaking of peak power necessary to make a 2k goal remotely possible (>15" under required pace), I think I''ve got the LP power requirement for 8' flat or a bit under. Repeated current CTC 100 and 200m today with df raised to 120 from 110 from 1 Aug. Saving 300 and 400 for tomorrow. If the 400 pace is 1:45 or better, I'll be encouraged to do Pete Plan like I mean it. May have to back the df off again for the 400. Maybe 115 and see how well pace and rate are sustained. Sprint rating above 40spm is feeling more natural altho no question there's a lot of back involvement in the stroke.

Great work there Jack - big improvements over your early marker - look forward to seeing how you go on the 400!

Well done guys
Did a 100 and 200 this morning to improve the CTC entry too
100 @1:22.0 (16.4)
200 @1:22.5 (32.9)
That was better - 4th stroke 1:20 and saw a lot of 1:19s in the 100 so pleasing considering all the recent meters
will do a couple of 300/400 soon
Jack - I have included 3 cycles of PP in September through to November as part of my of preparation for Boston so we will be doing some sessions together!!
(I have never had a plan before so will be interesting to see how disciplined I can be)

Lindsay, I'm planning on "training"
up to Boston to spectate and see you and the forum regulars run. Only 3 hrs. by Amtrack so not quite the same as flying half round the world on tickets purchased 9 months in advance for 6+' of pain. Ya gotta luvit!

Redo CTC 300 and 400. Improvement at df120 but couldn't get rate into the 40s today. Something not right in leg power transmission at start of 300. Frustrating but dropped score 10+ points to 6:51.8.

Thanks Jack - the whole thing is arguably very silly but quite exciting now. Getting the flights early is the only way for me to get there - lots of holiday stuff at that time of the year means seats are limited (on point based fares especially). It is also really good to know the exact day of the racing so early as planning is so much easier now.
I have a round the world ticket which is actually cheaper than coming back so will spend a week in SF before with my brother and a week in Brussels after with my daughter to make it all worthwhile - although the only thing that will make it worthwhile will be doing well on the day I guess - I am hoping to be sub 6:50 at least. The fear of failure lurks in the shadows.
I have now written a plan right through to the 31st Jan - 6 sessions a week with IP to start, PP for 8 weeks in the middle and then IP to finish - have presumptive targets of 6:48 now and 6:44 at the end and am hoping to complete 4 to 6 sessions a week - the main problem is balancing ambition and reality!! You do have to love it!

Nice times on the CTC Jack...looks like there are some serious improvements in the offing for a 500m PB for you as well.
Can't contribute much at the moment, no erg for me since last Tuesday. Did some interval sprints at the time and ended up with a strained lower back once I got home. Noticeable improvement today but most probably another 4-5 days before I even consider erging again. I'd rather wait until it is fully cleared...meanwhile, just chomping at the bit; Don't tell my 2015 self (he'd laugh at you !!) but I am missing the gym

Olivier, one challenge or another will be there when your back comes online. Hear September CTC is a simple free rate 10'. Easier on the lumbar spine than this month's sprinter spasms!

Tell you what, Big O, since it is vitally important, you could do the challenge at your mail-in pace and I'll do it over in drag.
My wife doesn't mind being in the taxi squad but she says darned if she'll come off the bench as a MHWT
Resting on the DL for a week will leave you ample time for the challenge.

I am sure our team captain has our best interests at heart but an injured athlete like me needs his recovery/rest, you see...what? what doughnuts ??
I'll be back on the erg in time to do those sprints best I can.
Failing that, I'll try to shed 35 kilos in the next fortnight to spare Mrs Rabit's feelings and allow her to post as an MLWT in your devious yet genius plan !

Well done Olivier - you will have a great time no matter what happens - just focus on a 2km plan and have no regrets.
I hope to get there maybe 2017/18
Today improved the 300m
300m => 50.2 @1:23.6 sr50 df155 598w (ctc)
1:22.0, 1:22.5, 1:26
