It nice, but the data is not clean (there are false and fake results included) and on the other hand the data is far from complete, most fast otw rowers do not rank their performances. So it gives an idea, but its not everything.skkipper wrote: ↑May 11th, 2021, 8:04 pmWow, that's perfect, thanks! Super glad to be able to see all the times for an event over the years - I definitely notice a big shift in times between seasons for most events except the 2km and for some events/ages/weights there are only a few entries per season so it's nice to see a larger sample size.harrythehamster wrote: ↑May 11th, 2021, 6:58 pmTry Rankedworkouts at https://www.rankedworkouts.comskkipper wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 3:48 pm
Is there was a way to see other people's lifetime bests or ranked workouts from different seasons? Stinks to not be able to see those anymore (I like to be amazed at how fast you all are and set goals for myself! ). Can you see those for someone who is a training partner?
I've found it very helpful.
There's a C2forum thread:

And in the long-term, you can search yourself and sort by event will make it easy to see how my times change by season, too!

Coming late to the news, but that's sad news for us, but good to see that your talent has been recognised. At least when we see your successes in future we can remind people of your humble beginnings in the Flyers .faach1 wrote: ↑April 7th, 2021, 7:25 amHi everyone,
As the eagle eyed may have spotted, I have left the Forum Flyers team/affiliation as I have been invited to join the MAD Indoor Rowing Team, which I have accepted. It’s been great to be a member of this team, you’ve been very kind.
Hopefully I’ll met some of you soon at BRIC/WRICH etc. once the virus has passed! And put some faces to names!

Re: Forum Flyers
Welcome to the team!
When I started going to the gym regularly years ago I realised that I was mainly using the rowing machines and feeling aimless when they were all busy. Eventually I realised that I was clearly hooked, and it didn't take much to convince my wife that we needed one at home. Bought the model D back in 2004 and haven't looked back since. Zero regrets, and great value in hindsight. Didn't take much negotiation to get the BikeErg when it launched either, although I'm starting to regret that it's been a distraction from the rower.

Re: Forum Flyers
Hi all
Regularly-absent captain (for those who didn't know) reporting in for my "monthly" check in with the team. Welcome to the new faces, and it looks like there have been some lively discussions going while I was gone. Also some great efforts in the team challenges and CTCs.
Thanks Chris for keeping the CTC stats updated - I'm kicking myself now for missing 2 months in a row, and slowing down my assault on the top 10. I've been working on and off for more than a year on a broader team participation tracker, but not quite ready for public consumption yet. I'd hoped to catch the wave of the new season, but life gets in the way sometimes.
Just in case anyone is questioning my team commitments, and my captain credentials, I've gone and bought a large chunk of the team kit shop
Took a hammering on import duty here in South Africa, and also suffered a bit with the exchange rate, but it's good quality kit, and very happy I finally took the plunge after many years of thinking about it.
Good luck for the new season anyone, and keep those metres and forum posts ticking over!

Re: Forum Flyers
Is it cheaper for say me to send as opposed to the company?? I think when we first set the godfrey thing up here was not enough take up to warrant a bulk order, so decided individually was the way to go.allanhallberg wrote: ↑May 13th, 2021, 3:30 pmHow much to send to new zealand.?

The kit is expensive no doubt but it is good quality, i still have mine and it comes out for any comps.

if that is correct then you can get around it if someone in UK does the ordering etc
Re: Forum Flyers
Yes that’s correct. I’ve got mates who live in Canada, and it’s the same story with sending stuff there.meerkats wrote: ↑May 14th, 2021, 8:40 am"If you live in NZ and someone from another country sends you a gift that's worth NZ$110 or less, you won't have to pay duties as long as: you didn't order or pay for it. it's for your personal use".allanhallberg wrote: ↑May 13th, 2021, 3:30 pmHow much to send to new zealand.?

Re: Forum Flyers
Today I have completed my first ever full marathon. Took me 3hr 45mins. 15 mins longer than I expected. Had to take a couple of stretching breaks! I'm in so much pain now, feel like I've been run over! Glad I did it though. I think it will be a long time before I do that again!
Re: Forum Flyers
I completed my first full marathon too! The first 28 km were great at 2:18.9/500m til I noticed the blisters on my hands and then it went downhill fast, definitely did not hit my goal pace. Shouldn’t be shocking since I didn’t train (oops).
I tried to focus on just hooking my hands and relaxing my grip but still got blisters, including on the tips and top joints of my fingers. Any suggestions would be welcome. I’ve seen that some people use gloves like NewGrips, but I’m wondering if the added material just makes the width of the handle more of a problem. Also seen the thin nylon sock suggestion and I just have not gone to find some (Clothes shopping? All I wear now is pajamas )

Re: Forum Flyers
Congratulations Neil and Sheena! A marathon is a tough challenge and definitely worse than 2 half marathons in my opinion. When I was starting out I found it relatively easy to scale up through all the various distances, but that's the one distance I knew I didn't want to exceed in future .
My first one was done as part of a RowPro marathon training programme where one of the sessions was a 40km one. Really didn't make sense to leave things that close, so I just set it up as a full marathon and got it done. I then used the real one at the end of the programme as a proper flat out attempt, but completely messed up my drink preparation (too diluted) and hit the wall around 2:15 in. Took a 10 minute break fetching a proper drink and lying on the couch, and managed to finish off when I felt better.
In those days I used some neoprene pads that C2 used to sell that looped over 2 of your fingers. They worked well to prevent blisters I seem to remember. I don't use them any more, but haven't done longer than a half marathon in years.

Congrats Neil and Sheena, that''s huge!
I have to investigate that nylon sock trick... I thought I was starting to sweat less, but turns out it was just the low room temperature in winter..

Re: Forum Flyers
Well done marathoners, no mean feat, give it a month and i might have another go.
I got away with no blisters last time,
1) Low rate training, built up the tough hands
2) Towel either side, put stops, delibrate stops to towel down and fuel
3) Wrist bands
4) Fan

Re: Forum Flyers
For sure worse than two half marathons. I was really pleasantly surprised at how well it was going for the first 2/3 (28 km). Once I noticed the blister pain, I just could not pull hard enough though and then at the end, I was stiff once I stood up and had to walk around for a bit. I am sure it would go better with some longer pieces to work my way up to the full, but not sure I reeeeeally feel the need to do that now that it is over . Sure loved the "calories burned" number on my heart rate monitor but not worth it if I cannot row now for a while until my hands heal.Slothful1 wrote: ↑May 17th, 2021, 2:15 amCongratulations Neil and Sheena! What is in your drink preparation? I prefer to exercise fasted and never have anything other than water. I do try to take in some electrolytes, otherwise I cramp easily, so I had 30 mg magnesium + 250 mg potassium + salt in water an hour before and the same amount the rest of the day after rowing, but nothing with calories until well after. I wondered if maybe I would have needed a bit of a boost, maybe a bite of fruit or something, if I had been able to sustain the ~2:19/500m, but I slowed down massively, ending up at 2:26.7/500m and it was not necessary for what I ended up doing.
Hmm this sounds like what the RowGrips are, though for the whole hand. I might just get them and give it a try sometime. Might help reduce the callouses and make handshakes less weird (if we ever start shaking hands again).
I have definitely done a lot of low rate training with all the month-long team challenges. Dropped off a bit after April 15, but my hands are very calloused up, so not sure what more I could have done. Also, my hands do not get sweaty, so unfortunately I don't think the towel/wrist bands/fan would help much with that. I do have a towel that I use while rowing but more for face, never hands.
