"The desire to win is born in most of us. The will to win is a matter of training. The manner of winning is a matter of honour." Update on my marathon- First and foremost, a young man passed away after completeing the half marathon I was in yesterday. This is so sad and really troubles me.
I GAVE UP after walking 7 miles. I psyched myself out being among so many people and had a bad vertigo attack. I am so ashamed that I let myself chicken out. I may try one again, I have let my sponsers and the Susan Komen Cancer society down. Anyway, the crutches didn't give me any trouble, just my mind.

You were out there, Jim - and that's what counts the most. No doubt that YOU inspired a lot of walkers and runners just by being on the course. In my book, you've got more courage than most! The crush of people that some of the events attract is difficult to manage even without vertigo, and there are a lot of events that I just don't do anymore because it isn't comfortable. I hope you give it a go another time...because that finish line is waiting for you. K2

Chickening out would have been not showing up at all. It sounds to me like you pushed yourself as far as was reasonable and healthy, had a bad vertigo attack and made a choice. I can very much relate to your situation as someone who has dealt with panic attacks in my past... real physical symptoms triggered by stress and often too by being in crowds (in my case anyway). Definitely try another event and keep pushing yourself, and don't beat yourself up no matter what happens. The important bit is to keep getting out there and reaching for your goals.

Thank you Pat, Kona2, and Karen for the very kind words. I may try another half marathon in the future , but I think I will try some smaller (amount of entrants) 5K events first. Still shaking from that experience and it was nice to be able to row most of it out today.
Thanks again, panic attacks are an awful frightening thing.
