How do I join the Forum Flyers for the FTC? Just started erg rowing May 2020.
Welcome Chuckie. I see Jack has posted a link to the new member guide, but feel free to ask questions as you think of them.

Always good to get a brief intro from new members (first name, rough age, where they are in the world, interesting history, etc.) All details optional obviously, given that this is a public forum.

Dave,
I have placed my age and my location in my profile. I also added my name to my signature.
Thank you
Thanks John! At some stage we should start a list of where everyone is located, to see how close we can get to ticking off all the countries (and states in the US).

Will you accept a late entry into your group? I’m looking for an excuse to use my erg more. Thanks
Welcome on board! Most urgent matter is to get registered under the Teams section of the logbook, but when you're ready, we're always keen to get a brief intro from new members on this thread.

Thanx for the tickle, Martin. Started on the erg in June 2014. As per stats line, my annus mirabilis  was 2016. Doesn’t get easier but certainly kinder to old bones than traffic jamming on a road bike.
Another big milestone Jack, well done! I'm still floundering in your wake, and I started a long time before you. No chance of catching up I suspect :).

Congrats Jack!!

And here I was celebrating my 1mil... Lol

Devon Indoor gave me an excuse to push extra hard. Yet another PB for the 5k and got my boat back in the CTC too.
I know there's always a last min lady that take that boat though, haha.
Well done, Suzanne! PBs are always worth celebrating. I'm having to cheat and celebrate my 40+ PBs at the moment :).

5k duty for the CTC and the Devon Indoor. 19:48.6, HR 175 at the end suggests that about the best I can do at the moment.

Well done Suzzanne, good to see the Flyers getting involved in the comps.

great to see all the new names for the Fall Challenge, lets hope they can all stay in. We are nearly top 10 in the Challenge and getting up there in the standings for the year.

if you're wondering who are some of these other names about that seem to have been around since the dinosaurs. I started rowing in 2001, and used it as back recovery whilst marathon training. Not looked back and as with most the machine gets the better of you and you just come back for more.

I'm a part time PT, the love the combination of Rowing and Kettlebells.

For some reason I still have this itch to go under 7.00, so am currently following and Eddy Fletcher plan, quite an eye opener how someone can find out your weaknesses, reckon it is going to take a year.

Over all aim, be in 75% percentile for all ranked events, should look at Rowproo again, are people using this, if not what are the alternatives, I'm a tech dinosaur so it has to be easy :)

Happy rowing people
Good to see the motivational fire coming through there, Chris. Look forward to updates on the road to sub-7.

Not much other than RowPro at the moment. Zwift keeps threatening to release a rowing version of their cycling functionality, but not clear when it will be launched. There is an app in beta testing (EXR) which looks like it might be OK, but I haven't done too much with it after the first test. When Zwift eventually launches I think they'll kill RowPro off. But for now RowPro is the one that is delivering, so worth giving it a go.

Here's a fun bit of analysis for all of you in the Fall Team Challenge.

You can look at the same analysis for any other team here

Hi all

I'm glad to see everyone functioning perfectly in my absence. The sign of a good leader I hope - set things up and the team gets stuck in with minimal guidance :).

Some busy work times recently kept me off the forum and the training equipment, but I've been trying to do some catching up. I started getting some logbook mail heat from one of our new members about my lack of metres :), so I cracked on with an shortish rowing session, and then the next day did 85k on the BikeErg for one of the Zwift Haute Route events (part way up the virtual Mont Ventoux).

With a long weekend ahead I thought I'd get back into the top 10 for the team (and show that anonymous newbie what the old timers can do when they put their minds to it!), but somehow motivation deserted me this weekend, and I only trained on 1 day of the 4. Heading out of town for a few days of leave next week, so will have to dig in and find some metres while I'm at home.

The Fall Challenge is going well for the Forum Flyers, so well done everyone. We aren't even halfway yet and have already passed 5.5 million metres! Last year was our best previous effort at just under 3.5 million with 35 people, so our current 85 participants are part of the explanation (but the average metres are also looking like they will be better than last year).

On the CTC front, 5 boats are floating, which is also great. I'm hoping to do my one tomorrow, but I don't think I'll change the picture unless we can get another lady to do a 5km.

i understand that should be sorted, the 6th boat will float once she has sorted out her password

We might even float boat 7 with one more entry (any category will do it!)...

CTC update: Fortunate are we to have a boat VII which will float with the addition of one more entry. Only two days to go. Time to lean on wives and lovers. [Mr. Babbs quicker on the draw]

Now with added stats of dubious value - https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... _teams.php

...or direct to Forum Flyers here -> https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... 29&id=5360

It's impressive to see a team where the distribution of rowers is very even - lots of people working hard rather than some teams with a massive dependency on big metres from a small number of members.

Interesting to see the median meter accumulation among active participants (non zero rowers in Free Spiritese). Average (not shown) for the 76 active is around 89k. The median, average, and high meter accumulation for the 11 Flyers inactive to date is 0.0k. 2 weeks+ remaining to dust off your machine of choice and find some form. Don’t be a ZERO! :D

"Some (possibly) Interesting Stats
The mean distance for non-zero rowers is 82,141 metres.
The median distance for non-zero rowers is 70,635 metres."

Your "average" is my "mean" I think :)

And come to think of it 'non-zero' is a bit of an odd phrase.

I take my cue from the immortal Melanie Safka, to wit: “I don’t go fast but I go pretty far.” Carl Watts throws up on his shoes when he hears me say that. Not caring!!
