Re: Forum Flyers
Fiona from Alberta appeared to be having fun with last month's challenge. Maybe too much fun? Maryanne and Virginia waiting in the wings? Jean will sub the challenge for her usual, unhurried 20' at the gym so may manage to launch 5 with full complement.

We have lost Lis o'H for the moment but Maryanne has promised one
Should be OK but there are really only 2 teams playing at the top (tho that can change)

That will do, that was a killer !

Nice work Olivier - might have a go myself. Done at close to 100% most challenges are life threatening.Papy wrote:Had an other go at the CTC this mornig. Shaved 7+ secs down to 14:47.6 (with the 1' rests).

Re: Forum Flyers
FYI the next month challenge
Independents June 2016 CTC
The decision is to go for 30 mins @ 24spm (maximum average) : it can be under 24spm, but the average must not be over that mark.

Re: Forum Flyers
Thanks for posting that Lindsay.
Any ideas for a target for this one - say compared to one of 5k, 10k pace or maybe even 30r20 pace? I may well have more than 1 go at this over June but would be good to have a realistic target for the first try. My last rate restricted 30' piece was 1:59.6 @ 21spm (about 2 weeks ago) so maybe try for about 1:58 or so?
I think there may have also been some discussion recently of how (when) the monitor rounds down spm (can't quite find the thread now) but does that influence the overall spm - obv not suggesting I would but could having a higher number of intervals game this one at all?

Re: Forum Flyers
Depends a lot to how high you rate unrestricted. For some this will be very close to free rate. Roughly say 10 pace plus 1 or 2 seconds. Shorter rowers proberly slowly. Compared to 30/20 think 2 seconds faster.Bloodbuzz Corio wrote:Thanks for posting that Lindsay.

Pm rounds down, 24.9 is 24, 23.9 is 23, but its not so difficult to rate 24.

Re: Forum Flyers
Rohan, the down-rounding performance monitors will give a theoretical advantage to habitual high raters over low raters. But the high raters (26-28) are still going to feel some discomfort restricting rate. I've spent so much time <25spm in the past year plus that there will be no aggro involved in staying below the rate ceiling. I gauge that 25spm would be about top sustainable/free/natural stroke rate for me over 30 mikes so I should at least be comfortable. A stroke counter, as is available in ErgData, or accurate averaging, as available in RowPro, would place everyone on a level playing field relative to the rate stipulation.
This a continuous row, Lindsay? The official wording at ISS/UK?

Re: Forum Flyers
If we take intervals to mean splits in RG's post above, does setting a higher than customary no. of splits increase effect of rounding error? 1' split @ 20s and 1' split @ 21s av. to 20.5 round to 20. 2' split composed of (1@20+1@21) av. to 41/2 or 20.5 round to 20. Simplest case says not. Are there complex combinations of rates/time which say yes?

Re: Forum Flyers
No, rounding is always down, 24.5, 24.7, 24,95 whatever its 24, but ofcourse you would steal 1spm. I will just pull 24 flat give or take a few strokes (over the whole piece)jackarabit wrote:If we take intervals to mean splits in RG's post above, does setting a higher than customary no. of splits increase effect of rounding error? 1' split @ 20s and 1' split @ 21s av. to 20.5 round to 20. 2' split composed of (1@20+1@21) av. to 41/2 or 20.5 round to 20. You could a bit below at first, to give you a spare for a sprint.

Re: Forum Flyers
just had a go as it suited the training day
7632 @1:57.9 - stuck with 23/4 the whole way - I count them in 12's/30"
should be able to do better I guess but not a strength of mine
