A member of an indoor rowing team or club? If so, this is the place for you.

Can this one team row to the moon and back?

One of the more meaningful celebrations that Concept2 has is the Million Meter one...each member of the Concept2 universe knows when they get the coveted gym bag filled with goodies, or the first million tee shirt, the 10 million meter sweatshirt, and so on. But the rest of the universe doesn't get to see those metric tallies ... unless the individual gives a shout out ! Celebrating meter millionaires and multi-millionaires is probably unique to this team. We even created an orbiter status for those whose lifetime meters are equivalent to taking a trip around the earth...40,075 km...and gave it a symbol.

This prompted a look into the individual stats, where I could see them. Here are the hidden millionaires! Some have stuck with Concept2 for decades!

Not for quite some time, I'm afraid.

Mars is indeed about 225 Million kilometers from Earth, but the closest person is David A with a (admittedly robust) total of 99.7 Million meters - a mere 0.044% of the way there.

85🔼🔼🔼 Lunies on the Lunie Challenge Team !! That's up two!

Today is double posting - while I thought about posting yesterday, I was more focused on just staying warm. Apologies to the pangramers! Even a new heating system struggles to keep up with what we might term acceptable inside temperatures! One more day of this Frostbite Falls(whining, I know) predicted. It amazes me that the birds, squirrels, etc., are doing as well as they are. Dogs go out and are soon lifting their paws due to extreme cold. Canceled going to the gym due to ongoing snow, and windchill of -19 F.

And that is why we count our meters as team meters, and no, I haven't calculated where we are in our journey to/from the moon for awhile (but I will)...because our journeys are long, and made better by interesting teammates! Keep erging!

A note from the astrogator...

Post by Kona2 » January 15th, 2024, 1:01 pm

Our FIFTH lunar landing occurred on October 6, 2021...and at end of erging year (4.30.22), predicted the 6th lunar landing would be a 2024 occurrence ... but it probably won't be within the 2024 erging year.

Totals since last lunar landing:

2022 Erging Year = 94,376,601 m
2023 Erging Year = 130,930,740 m
2024 Erging Year to date = 97,393,840 m

Gives us a total of 322,701,181 and we need 384,000,000 m....so (61,298,819 m) to go! It is possible that we could generate that many more team meters by April 30th (with a lot of help from our friends), but...October 2024 is looking good.

Still, we are in better shape than the NASA moonshot!

NASA will now target September 2025 for Artemis II, the first crewed Artemis mission around the Moon, and September 2026 for Artemis III, which is planned to land the first astronauts near the lunar South Pole. Artemis IV, the first mission to the Gateway lunar space station, remains on track for 2028.

AJ drew up our Lunar Landing logo, and today is his birthday, too! Happy day, AJ !!

Oh my, yes indeed - maths, ugh! :?

That said, this really puts the vastness of space into context. And that’s just Mars, a mere hop, skip, and jump away from us.

I’ve just come back to rowing after a decade or more away. It’s rough coming back; because of the time away, the ‘fun’ I’ve had, but mostly because I somehow became a decade or more older. All of that shows clearly in my diminished capabilities.

I’m considering going after the marathon in May, and starting to row towards that. We’ll see; it’s been 20 years at least since I went after it. Slow and steady, incremental improvements should get me there.

Snort. Do a bunch of half marathons, maybe a 30K and then one day just say what the heck and do it. Figure out yer water, electrolytes and snacks- and what yer butt needs to make it through the hours. Epic movies help.
