LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Team Progress Thru 11.16.23
Yesterday was a travel day to Tucson. And, as is my usual thing to do, I go to grocery and stock Mom's refrigerator and freezer. This morning, I was greeted with a warm refrigerator...how warm? I went and got a thermometer because, you know, data. It is a sad thing to have to pitch food....but 65F is waaaay past safe food range. Hoping that I can get it repaired as getting a new fridge these days is often a supply issue and a delivery issue...and a holiday in the middle of it issue. Egad. Never fear - there is a backup plan!
So I'm late getting things posted, and all of you have rounded up a huge herd of meters! I am impressed when a two day total exceed ONE million! Well done, Lunies!
Tomorrow is El Tour de Tucson here in the Valley, and I have seen cyclists EVERYWHERE! It is awesome, and they are so excited. I stopped by the bike shop (therapy) and several out of town riders were there picking up CO2 cartridges, because you can't fly with them. What's the weather? Ooooh...it's going to rain. The stories will be better with a bit of adversity, and the times will be slower. Let's all hope for a safe ride for everybody.

I think everyone has things and events that they look at as either good luck charms, or harbingers of good luck or things that say it's going to be a good day. Back in graduate school days, it was hearing Take It To The Limit play on the car radio (this did not necessarily result in a speeding ticket). When I'm in Tucson, it's sighting roadrunners. Sighting a roadrunner in the front yard - I'm sure that's bonus good luck. Serendipity at least!

Here's how the reindeer season works for us!
Reposting from 2022 (and I like the 2022 logo), and since it's also a combo of posts - there's some redundancy.
It's going to be AMAZING!!
For those who have been reindeer-less all your life, you have no idea how motivating getting your reindeer (and accessories of antlers, flashing harness, tail and ear wags) will be! The Holiday Challenge is an all time favorite in the Concept2 universe. The universal participation soars into the 25-30 K range, and the virtual dollars raised by our meter production is very satisfying! Take a couple of minutes to navigate in your logbook to the Challenges page, and sign up for the Concept2 charity choice that appeals to you. After all, you will never work this hard for $2 in the real world - and it helps to be part of something bigger than your own meter logbook. And, if you're also motivated by the shiny Concept2 holiday pin that will be mailed to you in January IF you complete 200K (400 K for bike ergers) AND sign up to have your meters count towards one of the Concept2 charities, then this matters too. Make your plans.
The reindeer have started their annual migration to our Luniverse in anticipation of being claimed by Lunie ergers during the Holiday Challenge. For those new to this Lunie tradition, here's how the season of the reindeer works for us.
1. Choose your charity from the list that Concept2 supports - you want to get your two cents worth! You earn 0.02 US cents per kilometer erged for the first 100 K. Adaptive athletes and kids under 16 have a target of 50 K. This is the toughest $2 you'll ever earn.
2. While you are choosing your charity, make sure that your address is correct in your profile - because you'll want to earn your Holiday Challenge pin from Concept2 (and that takes a bunch of meters).
3. Once you reach either 100K or 50K, your charity cents are in the Concept2 bank...and you've earned your reindeer. Traditionally, we have started the names with the original eight from the Clement Moore "Twas The Night Before Christmas" origins...there is, naturally, a big push by everyone to be one of the first eight to reach the reindeer. Still, some prefer to request a name for their reindeer. We do our best to make sure your reindeer has the name you wanted it to have! General rule of reindeer names is that if you had a certain reindeer name in the previous season, you'll get that same reindeer name unless you specify otherwise!
4. After you reach 100K or 50K, every kilometer you earn thereafter is worth 0.04 US cents. Some of our teammates have earned more than $10 during the Challenge for their Charity. Any direct personal contributions of real money that you wish to make towards the charity - well, you need to contact the charity directly.
5. Along the way, there are virtual reindeer accessories that you earn from our Lunie portion of the Challenge. You earn antler lights at 200K, a flashing harness at 300K, a tail wag at 400 K, and an ear wag at 500K.

We've got our first reindeer!!
Reaching 100K or more Challenge meters on the first day of the Challenge isn't a common achievement, yet for the second year in a row, Chip is making a signature statement!
....Vixen......(Chip)
Vixen has been Chip's reindeer for multiple seasons, but as always - if you have a reindeer name that you'd rather have, we will try to accomodate! The first 8 reindeer are usually those of the classic tale! You're working hard for those reindeer meters - usually with a lot of competing seasonal obligations!
When next in your logbook, look over to the Holiday Challenge thermometer and scroll down to view the charity selections. Choose your charity out of the list provided by Concept2.
November 23–December 24
Row, ski or ride as much as you can between American Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. We have honor boards and downloadable certificates for everybody who reaches 50k (adaptive and kids only), 100k and 200k.
For every person who does at least 100k during the challenge (50k for adaptive athletes or athletes aged 16 or under), Concept2 will donate $.02 per kilometer (1000 meters) to your choice of the following organizations: World Resources Institute, Charity: Water, World Central *** DELETE - SPAM ***, Save The Children or VT Community Foundation Flood Relief. And once you get beyond 100k, we'll donate $.04 per kilometer. Anybody who reaches 200k and has chosen to give money to charity will receive a free Holiday Challenge pin.
Note: BikeErg meters count for half the distance when applied to the challenge.
