Preparing for the Holiday Challenge
If completing 100,000 or 200,000 meters in a month is a new challenge for you, here are some ideas to help you prepare:

Download the 2020 Holiday Challenge Training Calendar for daily motivation and inspiration. It may be the 2020, but it works.
Don't be intimidated! Every year people who have never completed long distances complete the challenge.
Gradually build your workout time. Try adding an extra 1000 meters per day, especially if you don't usually complete 7000 meters at a time.
If you don't usually workout every day, try working out for several days in a row. The workouts can be short, but see how it feels to row/ski/ride more often.
Keep some stretching in your routine or add it if you haven't been doing it regularly.
Think about when you will fit your extra Holiday Challenge workouts into your schedule. If it requires you to workout at a different time of day than usual, try it out ahead of time to see how it feels.
Plan ahead so that you can make up any missed meters due to travel or other commitments.
Pace yourself! Many people have commented that the Holiday Challenge pushed them to do more than they ever thought they could, and it felt great! On the other hand, it is not wise to make a sudden jump in the amount of rowing/skiing/riding you do, so keep this in mind. You can build your daily meters gradually, even during the challenge itself.

These hogback formations are in Roxborough State Park - and are part of the Fountain Formation that happened a gazillion years ago. These unique leaning slabs can be found throughout many areas in Colorado...I'd never been to Roxborough. It's a Leave No Trace philosophy park, and these photos don't do it justice. Still, I haven't had the opportunity or the health to do a lot of hikes in the last couple of years and I enjoyed it. Probably 7 or 8 trails that lead to overlooks - all spectacular. I was only good for about 3 miles, so was just right to pick this trail. Let's call it cross-training!

Reindeer are heading our way....and I thought I'd better repost what the Lunie reindeer are all about!

And with the annual migration spotted, you may see the need to set your goals and make time for some charity dollar earning, calorie burning, fun and reindeer games.

Is this your first Holiday Challenge with the Lunies? For those new to the team (or in need of a reindeer refresher), one of the things that we do for FUN and motivation, is to have teammates earn their Reindeer and Reindeer Bling with the different milestones they amass on the way to earning more and more Charity $$$.

100K earns you your reindeer...and reindeer name.

The first 8 to the 100K milestone are eligible for the classic reindeer names (all that Comet and Blitzen stuff). Naturally, if you are bg for example, you may wish to always be Starbuck. Hint: if you have a preference, send me a PM as your meter total gets close to the 100K milestone. At the 100K level, you've also earned the basic donation of $2.00, and you'll start earning 0.04 per km.
